Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Todd A. Besnoff earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Florida State University College of Medicine, where he distinguished himself as both a scholar and a clinician. His academic tenure at FSU was marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence, culminating in honors such as the Dean’s List and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society induction. While at FSU, Dr. Besnoff immersed himself in a curriculum that emphasized not only the fundamental sciences of anatomy, physiology, and pathology but also the emerging fields of regenerative medicine and aesthetic surgery. He completed a series of rigorous research projects, including a peer‑reviewed publication on the role of adipose‑derived stem cells in facial rejuvenation, which underscored his early interest in the convergence of science and artistry.

Following medical school, Dr. Besnoff pursued a demanding residency in Plastic Surgery at Sacred Heart Hospital, a program renowned for its comprehensive exposure to both reconstructive and cosmetic procedures. During his five‑year residency, he refined his operative dexterity across a broad spectrum of cases—ranging from complex craniofacial reconstructions after traumatic injury to aesthetic breast augmentations and body contouring surgeries. His mentors at Sacred Heart lauded his meticulous technique, decisive intraoperative judgment, and an innate ability to anticipate and mitigate potential complications. Throughout his residency, Dr. Besnoff also completed rotations in gynecologic surgery and emergency medicine, experiences that broadened his perspective on tissue handling, hemostasis, and rapid decision‑making under pressure.

The culmination of Dr. Besnoff’s training was a fellowship focused on advanced cosmetic surgery techniques, during which he honed expertise in minimally invasive facial rejuvenation, laser resurfacing, and fat grafting. He also participated in international surgical exchanges, observing and contributing to innovative reconstructive protocols in low‑resource settings. These global experiences reinforced his belief in the universal applicability of meticulous surgical standards, regardless of geographic or socioeconomic context. The synthesis of his academic achievements, residency rigor, and fellowship specialization equipped Dr. Besnoff with a robust foundation that now informs his daily practice in Clearwater, where he delivers outcomes that reflect both scientific rigor and aesthetic finesse.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Besnoff’s surgical repertoire is anchored in a dual mastery of cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery, allowing him to address a wide array of patient needs with precision and artistry. In the realm of cosmetic surgery, he offers a comprehensive suite of procedures—including facelifts, rhinoplasty, liposuction, and body sculpting—that are tailored to each patient’s unique facial geometry and body proportions. His approach to facial rejuvenation, for instance, integrates traditional lift techniques with modern adjuncts such as autologous fat transfer and thread lifts, resulting in natural‑looking outcomes that respect the patient’s age and skin quality. Dr. Besnoff is also highly skilled in breast aesthetic surgery, performing augmentations, lifts, and reductions with a focus on achieving symmetry, optimal projection, and a harmonious silhouette.

Beyond cosmetic enhancements, Dr. Besnoff possesses extensive experience in reconstructive plastic surgery, a discipline that demands both technical exactitude and compassionate patient care. He has successfully managed complex wound closures, scar revisions, and flap reconstructions for patients recovering from oncologic resections, traumatic injuries, and congenital anomalies. His proficiency in microsurgical techniques enables him to perform free tissue transfers with high success rates, restoring function and appearance in cases where local tissue options are insufficient. Moreover, his background in gynecologic surgery equips him to perform reconstructive procedures such as vaginal rejuvenation and labial reduction, addressing both functional and aesthetic concerns for female patients.

Dr. Besnoff’s expertise also extends to emergent and life‑saving interventions, a legacy of his early rotations in emergency medicine. He remains adept at rapid assessment and stabilization of trauma patients, skillfully managing airway, vascular, and soft‑tissue injuries in high‑stress environments. This capacity for decisive action underpins his work in tissue donation surgery, where he collaborates with organ procurement organizations to retrieve viable tissues for transplantation. His contributions to tissue donation not only enhance the lives of recipients but also embody a profound commitment to the ethical stewardship of human tissue. The breadth of Dr. Besnoff’s surgical skill set—spanning aesthetic enhancements, complex reconstructions, and emergent care—positions him as a versatile surgeon capable of meeting the most demanding clinical challenges.

This protocol includes preoperative multidisciplinary case conferences, detailed informed‑consent processes that outline potential risks and benefits, and personalized risk‑assessment algorithms that factor in comorbidities, medication use, and lifestyle considerations. Intraoperatively, he employs standardized checklists modeled after the World Health Organization’s Surgical Safety Checklist, ensuring that critical steps—such as patient positioning, instrument verification, and time‑out confirmations—are meticulously documented. Postoperatively, his team conducts rigorous monitoring for signs of infection, thrombosis, or wound dehiscence, complemented by patient‑accessible telehealth portals for prompt reporting of concerns.
