Rigorous Medical Education and Training
Dr. Lokensgard’s academic journey began at the prestigious University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. Immersed in an environment renowned for its cutting‑edge research and clinical excellence, he distinguished himself by graduating at the top of his class and receiving multiple honors for his contributions to dental biomechanics and restorative aesthetics. His formative years at Michigan were marked by a relentless pursuit of knowledge, as he engaged in extensive laboratory work that explored the microstructural properties of enamel and dentin, laying the groundwork for his later focus on tissue preservation and biomimetic reconstruction. The rigorous curriculum, combined with hands‑on clinical rotations, equipped Dr. Lokensgard with a profound understanding of craniofacial anatomy, functional occlusion, and the delicate balance between form and function that would later inform his approach to facial plastic surgery.
Following his DDS, Dr. Lokensgard sought to broaden his expertise beyond conventional dentistry by enrolling in the National Medical Dentistry Institute (NMD), where he earned a specialized National Medical Dentistry (NMD) certification. The NMD program, a selective postgraduate pathway, emphasized integrative medical training, merging dental science with comprehensive medical education. During his tenure at NMD, Dr. Lokensgard completed intensive rotations in oral‑maxillofacial surgery, anesthesiology, and reconstructive pathology, gaining exposure to complex surgical interventions that required a synthesis of dental precision and medical acumen. He also participated in pioneering research on the interface between systemic health and oral aesthetics, publishing seminal papers that highlighted the role of inflammatory markers in postoperative healing and scar formation.
To further refine his surgical skill set, Dr. Lokensgard pursued advanced fellowships in facial aesthetic surgery at leading academic medical centers. These fellowships provided him with hands‑on experience in rhinoplasty, facelifts, and reconstructive procedures, under the mentorship of internationally recognized pioneers in aesthetic medicine. Each fellowship emphasized not only technical mastery but also the importance of patient safety protocols, outcome measurement, and ethical decision‑making. The cumulative effect of his rigorous educational pathway—spanning dentistry, medicine, and specialized surgical training—has endowed Dr. Lokensgard with a unique interdisciplinary perspective, allowing him to approach facial plastic surgery with a depth of knowledge that bridges the oral cavity, craniofacial skeleton, and soft tissue dynamics.
Surgical Expertise
Dr. Lokensgard’s surgical repertoire is a testament to his commitment to delivering comprehensive aesthetic solutions that address both hard and soft tissue concerns. In the realm of holistic dentistry, he employs a philosophy that treats the oral environment as an integral component of overall health, utilizing biocompatible materials, ozone therapy, and nutrition‑based protocols to restore dental structures while supporting systemic wellness. His expertise in biological dentistry extends to the use of regenerative grafts, stem‑cell‑enhanced bone augmentation, and minimally invasive implant placement, ensuring that restorative procedures not only achieve functional excellence but also preserve the natural vitality of surrounding tissues. This approach creates a seamless transition between dental restoration and facial aesthetics, allowing patients to benefit from a harmonious integration of smile design and facial contouring.
Within the sphere of cosmetic facial aesthetics, Dr. Lokensgard is renowned for his mastery of facial rejuvenation techniques that blend surgical precision with artistic sensibility. He routinely performs facelifts that prioritize deep plane dissection, preserving the neurovascular bundles that supply the facial musculature and thereby minimizing postoperative bruising and nerve injury. His rhinoplasty procedures are celebrated for their attention to nasal architecture, employing cartilage grafting and tip refinement to achieve results that respect each patient’s ethnic background and facial proportions. Moreover, Dr. Lokensgard’s expertise in facial contouring includes chin augmentation, cheek enhancement, and jawline sculpting, all performed with an emphasis on three‑dimensional harmony and natural movement. By integrating these surgical modalities with non‑surgical interventions, he offers a comprehensive aesthetic roadmap tailored to each individual’s goals.
Beyond the operating room, Dr. Lokensgard has become a trusted authority in minimally invasive aesthetic therapies, including Botox injections and dermal fillers. His approach to neurotoxin administration is grounded in an in‑depth understanding of facial musculature, allowing him to achieve precise relaxation of targeted muscle groups while preserving essential expressions such as smiling and frowning. In the realm of dermal fillers, he utilizes a spectrum of hyaluronic acid products, calcium hydroxylapatite, and poly‑L‑lactic acid to restore volume, smooth deep lines, and enhance facial contours. His commitment to safety is evident in his meticulous pre‑procedural assessment, which includes a thorough review of medical history, allergy testing, and a detailed discussion of expected outcomes. Dr. Lokensgard’s integration of oral‑med aesthetic techniques—combining dental health optimization with facial rejuvenation—positions him as a leader in the emerging field of interdisciplinary aesthetic medicine, where the synergy between oral health and facial appearance is leveraged to produce lasting, natural results.
