• Physician of the Year – Princeton Medical Society (2022)

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Susan Forster’s academic foundation was forged at Rutgers University, where she graduated with honors in Biology, earning a Bachelor of Science that emphasized cellular physiology, genetics, and research methodology. Her undergraduate tenure was distinguished by a series of research internships in molecular biology laboratories, where she contributed to peer‑reviewed publications on tissue regeneration and extracellular matrix remodeling. These scholarly experiences not only honed her analytical acumen but also cultivated a deep curiosity about the mechanisms that underlie healing and aesthetic change, setting the stage for her subsequent medical pursuits.

Following her exemplary performance at Rutgers, Dr. Forster matriculated to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), where she earned her Doctor of Medicine degree. At UMDNJ, she distinguished herself as a scholar‑practitioner, balancing rigorous clinical rotations with a commitment to community health initiatives. Her residency in general surgery provided a robust platform for mastering operative techniques, while elective rotations in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery exposed her to the nuanced interplay of form, function, and patient expectation. Throughout medical school, she was repeatedly recognized for her leadership, receiving the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence and serving as president of the Student Plastic Surgery Society.

Dr. Forster’s postgraduate training continued with a prestigious fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at a nationally recognized academic medical center. During this period, she refined her expertise in microsurgical reconstruction, facial aesthetic procedures, and complex body contouring, while also completing a concurrent certification in obstetrics and gynecology—a unique combination that would later inform her multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Her fellowship culminated in a series of case presentations at national conferences, where she earned accolades for innovative techniques in scar revision and breast reconstruction. The depth and breadth of her education equipped Dr. Forster with an unparalleled ability to navigate the intricacies of both aesthetic refinement and functional restoration.

Surgical Expertise

Although Dr. Susan Forster is celebrated for her contributions to plastic surgery, her surgical repertoire is distinctly broadened by a comprehensive foundation in obstetrics and gynecology. This dual specialty enables her to approach aesthetic procedures with a profound understanding of the underlying physiological changes that accompany pregnancy, childbirth, and hormonal fluctuations. For instance, her expertise in abdominal wall anatomy, honed through obstetric surgeries, informs her precision in abdominoplasty and umbilical hernia repair, delivering results that respect both aesthetic contours and structural integrity. Moreover, her gynecologic training equips her to address concerns such as pelvic floor laxity and vaginal rejuvenation, integrating aesthetic sensibilities with functional restoration.

In the realm of facial aesthetics, Dr. Forster’s surgical skill set is distinguished by an intricate command of tissue handling, vascular preservation, and nerve safeguarding—principles that echo the meticulous care required in obstetric procedures. Her proficiency in rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, and facelifts is underpinned by a deep appreciation for the delicate balance between form and function, a perspective cultivated through years of delivering safe, patient‑centered obstetric care. Additionally, her experience with complex reconstructive challenges, such as post‑mastectomy breast reconstruction, leverages both her plastic surgery acumen and her obstetric insight into tissue expansion and wound healing dynamics.

Beyond individual procedures, Dr. Forster’s surgical philosophy embraces a comprehensive, patient‑oriented strategy that integrates pre‑operative assessment, intra‑operative precision, and post‑operative support. She routinely employs state‑of‑the‑art imaging technologies to simulate outcomes, allowing patients to visualize potential results and make informed decisions. Her operative suites are equipped with advanced anesthesia protocols and intra‑operative monitoring systems, reflecting her commitment to safety derived from obstetric practice standards. This holistic approach, grounded in a dual specialty background, ensures that each surgical encounter is executed with the highest degree of technical excellence, compassionate care, and long‑term patient satisfaction.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Dr. Susan Forster’s dedication to patient safety is reflected in her active involvement with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), where she holds a distinguished fellowship (FACOG). This affiliation underscores her adherence to rigorous clinical guidelines, continuous professional development, and evidence‑based practice. As a Fellow of ACOG, Dr. Forster routinely participates in peer‑review panels, contributes to policy statements on peri‑operative care, and mentors emerging physicians in the principles of safe surgical conduct. Her commitment to these standards ensures that each procedure she performs is anchored in the latest safety protocols, from pre‑operative risk stratification to postoperative monitoring.

Recognition of Dr. Forster’s exemplary safety record culminated in her being honored as Physician of the Year by the Princeton Medical Society in 2022. This accolade highlighted her proactive approach to minimizing complications, her implementation of a comprehensive surgical checklist system, and her leadership in establishing a multidisciplinary safety committee within her practice. Under her guidance, the committee has instituted regular morbidity and mortality reviews, fostering a culture of transparency, continuous improvement, and shared learning. These initiatives have translated into measurable reductions in infection rates, improved patient satisfaction scores, and a reputation for uncompromising excellence in surgical care.

Beyond institutional accolades, Dr. Forster embeds patient safety into every facet of her clinical workflow. She employs advanced peri‑operative imaging and simulation tools to anticipate anatomical variations, thereby reducing intra‑operative surprises. Her practice also incorporates robust patient education programs, ensuring that individuals are fully informed about pre‑operative preparation, intra‑operative expectations, and postoperative recovery pathways. By integrating technology, rigorous protocol adherence, and compassionate communication, Dr. Forster creates a safety net that protects patients while empowering them to actively participate in their own care journey.
