Rigorous Medical Education and Training
Dr. Susan Chapman earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, an institution celebrated for its rigorous curriculum, cutting‑edge research, and commitment to cultivating physicians who excel in both clinical excellence and compassionate care. During her medical school tenure, she distinguished herself through academic honors, leadership in student‑run clinics, and a series of research projects that explored wound healing dynamics and scar formation at the cellular level. Her dissertation, which investigated the influence of extracellular matrix components on postoperative fibrosis, garnered accolades and laid a scientific foundation that would later inform her nuanced approach to minimizing scar visibility in aesthetic surgery. The University of Maryland’s emphasis on evidence‑based practice and interdisciplinary collaboration equipped Dr. Chapman with a robust clinical acumen and a keen investigative mindset, both of which have become hallmarks of her surgical career.
Following medical school, Dr. Chapman pursued a comprehensive residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at a prestigious academic medical center, where she refined her operative skills across a spectrum of complex procedures. The residency program emphasized both high‑volume obstetric care and intricate gynecologic surgeries, providing her with a unique blend of experience that would later translate seamlessly into the precision required for plastic and reconstructive procedures. Her rotations included managing high‑risk pregnancies, performing emergency cesarean sections, and mastering minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopic hysterectomy and robotic‑assisted pelvic surgery. These formative years cultivated a profound respect for tissue handling, hemostasis, and the delicate balance between functional preservation and aesthetic outcomes—a balance that underpins her modern aesthetic practice.
To further specialize, Dr. Chapman completed a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, where she honed expertise in advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic methods, as well as innovative hysterectomy alternatives that prioritize uterine conservation. During this fellowship, she contributed to pioneering studies on uterine‑sparing techniques, including laparoscopic myomectomy and uterine artery embolization, which earned her national recognition for advancing patient‑centered care. The fellowship also offered exposure to emerging technologies such as 3‑D imaging and intra‑operative navigation, tools that she now integrates into her aesthetic practice to achieve unparalleled precision. This blend of rigorous academic training, hands‑on operative mastery, and a relentless pursuit of innovation has forged a surgeon whose technical excellence is matched only by her dedication to patient safety and satisfaction.
Surgical Expertise
Dr. Chapman’s surgical expertise is a tapestry woven from decades of experience in obstetrics, gynecology, and minimally invasive surgery, each strand contributing to her distinctive skill set in aesthetic and reconstructive procedures. Her deep familiarity with the female reproductive system informs a nuanced understanding of abdominal and pelvic anatomy, enabling her to execute complex abdominal contouring, such as tummy tucks and body lifts, with meticulous attention to preserving vascular integrity and minimizing scar formation. Moreover, her proficiency in managing postoperative recovery for obstetric patients translates into a compassionate postoperative care model for her aesthetic patients, ensuring swift, comfortable healing while maintaining the highest standards of safety. Dr. Chapman’s ability to anticipate and mitigate complications—drawn from her obstetric background where emergent decision‑making is routine—provides an added layer of reassurance for patients undergoing major cosmetic surgery.
In the realm of minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Chapman has become a recognized authority on hysterectomy alternatives, offering patients uterus‑preserving options that reduce operative trauma and preserve hormonal function. Her expertise in laparoscopic myomectomy, uterine artery embolization, and hysteroscopic polypectomy reflects a commitment to less invasive solutions that prioritize long‑term health. These techniques require precise instrumentation, adept navigation of the pelvic cavity, and an intimate knowledge of tissue planes—all skills that are directly transferable to aesthetic procedures such as facial rejuvenation, breast augmentation, and scar revision. By leveraging her minimally invasive background, Dr. Chapman employs advanced technologies, including endoscopic cameras and robotic assistance, to achieve superior cosmetic results with reduced operative time, lower infection rates, and minimal scarring.
Beyond gynecologic surgery, Dr. Chapman’s mastery of menopause management underscores her holistic approach to women’s health, a perspective that enriches her aesthetic practice. She integrates hormonal optimization strategies with surgical planning to ensure that patients approaching or undergoing menopause receive tailored peri‑operative care that addresses bone density, skin elasticity, and wound healing capacity. This interdisciplinary insight allows her to anticipate age‑related changes that may affect surgical outcomes, adjusting techniques and postoperative protocols accordingly. Whether performing a facelift, breast reconstruction after mastectomy, or a subtle facial contouring, Dr. Chapman’s comprehensive understanding of the physiological shifts that accompany menopause ensures that her patients achieve natural, lasting results that harmonize with their evolving bodies.

Her contributions have been instrumental in shaping educational workshops that disseminate these safety measures to fellow surgeons, thereby extending her impact beyond her own practice to the broader surgical community. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Dr. Chapman was honored as Physician of the Year by the Hawaii Medical Association in 2020, a testament to her exemplary patient care, surgical mastery, and leadership in advancing medical safety standards.
Further cementing her reputation for excellence, Dr. Chapman received the Excellence in Women’s Health Award in 2018, an accolade that celebrates her innovative approaches to women’s surgical care and her dedication to reducing operative risks. This award highlighted her pioneering work in uterus‑sparing procedures, which not only preserve reproductive potential but also dramatically lower the incidence of complications associated with traditional hysterectomy. Her commitment to meticulous pre‑operative assessment, intra‑operative vigilance, and comprehensive post‑operative follow‑up has resulted in a consistently low complication rate, high patient satisfaction scores, and a reputation for delivering results that are both aesthetically superior and medically sound.
