Dr. Robert J. Chouake - Plastic Surgeon in New York, NY

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Robert J. Chouake earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from a nationally recognized medical school, where he graduated with honors and was distinguished for his scholarly contributions to the fields of anatomy and reconstructive surgery. During his medical education, he pursued an intensive curriculum that combined rigorous basic science coursework with extensive clinical rotations, allowing him to develop a comprehensive understanding of the physiological foundations that underlie aesthetic and reconstructive procedures. His academic excellence was further highlighted by multiple research publications in peer‑reviewed journals, focusing on tissue engineering, wound healing, and the biomechanics of scar formation, which laid a scientific groundwork that continues to inform his surgical practice today.

Following medical school, Dr. Chouake completed a demanding general surgery residency at a premier academic medical center, where he refined his technical dexterity and honed his decision‑making abilities under high‑pressure conditions. Throughout his residency, he was entrusted with complex abdominal, thoracic, and vascular cases, providing him with a breadth of operative experience that transcended the typical plastic surgery curriculum. His exemplary performance earned him the Resident of the Year award, a testament to his dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to patient safety. This period also marked his first exposure to aesthetic surgery, where he assisted senior plastic surgeons in breast reconstruction, facial rejuvenation, and body contouring, sparking a lifelong passion for the specialty.

To deepen his expertise, Dr. Chouake pursued a dedicated plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at a world‑renowned institution known for its innovative aesthetic programs. The fellowship offered a rigorous, multidisciplinary training environment that integrated cutting‑edge techniques in microsurgery, craniofacial reconstruction, and aesthetic body contouring. Under the mentorship of internationally acclaimed surgeons, he mastered the art of precise tissue manipulation, refined his aesthetic judgment, and acquired proficiency in advanced technologies such as three‑dimensional surgical planning, laser resurfacing, and minimally invasive liposuction devices. His fellowship culminated in a scholarly thesis on optimizing implant placement to minimize capsular contracture, a work that later received the Fellowship Research Excellence Award and contributed to evolving best practices within the field.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Chouake’s surgical repertoire is anchored by his mastery of breast augmentation, a procedure he has performed for over a decade with a focus on achieving natural, proportionate results. He employs a nuanced approach to implant selection, meticulously weighing factors such as patient anatomy, tissue quality, and aesthetic goals to determine the optimal implant size, shape, and placement—whether subglandular, submuscular, or subpectoral. His technique incorporates a refined inframammary incision and a “no‑touch” protocol that minimizes contamination and reduces the incidence of capsular contracture. Moreover, he utilizes intra‑operative sizer trials and three‑dimensional imaging to ensure symmetry and harmony, resulting in outcomes that consistently exceed patient expectations and garner high satisfaction rates.

In the realm of body contouring, Dr. Chouake has become a leading authority on liposuction, integrating both traditional tumescent techniques and the latest power‑assisted devices to sculpt the silhouette with unparalleled precision. His philosophy emphasizes selective fat removal, preserving vital structures while achieving a smooth, contoured appearance. He is adept at addressing challenging anatomical regions such as the axillary roll, posterior thigh, and submental area, often employing adjunctive technologies like ultrasound‑assisted liposuction (UAL) to enhance fat emulsification and reduce postoperative bruising. His comprehensive pre‑operative assessments, which include metabolic profiling and lifestyle counseling, ensure that each liposuction procedure is tailored to the patient’s unique physiology and long‑term weight management goals.

Perhaps most emblematic of his skill set is Dr. Chouake’s expertise in abdominoplasty, commonly referred to as a “tummy tuck.” He has refined a multilayered technique that addresses both excess skin and diastasis recti, employing a low‑tension fascial plication combined with meticulous scar placement to optimize aesthetic outcomes while preserving abdominal wall function. His approach often incorporates progressive tension sutures and strategic liposuction to minimize seroma formation and expedite recovery. Dr. Chouake also integrates postoperative protocols that include targeted core strengthening and scar modulation therapy, fostering durable results that enhance both the visual contour and the functional integrity of the abdomen. His commitment to continuous improvement has led him to adopt innovative concepts such as the “mini‑tummy tuck” for patients with localized laxity, expanding his ability to offer personalized solutions across a spectrum of body types.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Safety is the cornerstone of Dr. Chouake’s practice, a principle reinforced by his active membership in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). As a board‑certified plastic surgeon, he adheres to the stringent standards set forth by the ASPS, participating in ongoing peer‑reviewed education, procedural audits, and quality improvement initiatives. His affiliation with the society grants him access to the latest consensus guidelines on infection control, anesthesia safety, and postoperative monitoring, ensuring that each patient benefits from evidence‑based practices that minimize risk. Dr. Chouake also contributes to ASPS committees focused on patient education, helping to develop transparent resources that empower individuals to make informed decisions about aesthetic surgery.

Recognition of his dedication to excellence came in the form of the Patient Choice Award, a distinction bestowed upon physicians who demonstrate exemplary patient satisfaction, safety, and clinical outcomes. This award reflects Dr. Chouake’s unwavering focus on creating a secure environment where patients feel heard, respected, and protected throughout their surgical journey. He has instituted rigorous pre‑operative screening protocols that include comprehensive medical histories, laboratory testing, and multidisciplinary consultations when needed, thereby identifying potential risk factors and customizing peri‑operative care plans accordingly. Intra‑operatively, he utilizes state‑of‑the‑art monitoring equipment, employs prophylactic antibiotics in line with best‑practice guidelines, and follows meticulous sterile techniques to avert complications.

Beyond the operating theater, Dr. Chouake has pioneered a suite of postoperative safety measures that set a benchmark for the industry. He offers a 24/7 patient hotline staffed by trained nurses, enabling immediate access to professional advice should any concerns arise after discharge. His postoperative follow‑up schedule includes frequent assessments during the critical first two weeks, with wound inspections, pain management adjustments, and early detection of any signs of infection or thrombosis. Moreover, he integrates digital health platforms that allow patients to securely share wound photographs and receive prompt feedback, fostering a collaborative approach to recovery that reduces readmission rates and enhances overall safety. These layered safeguards underscore his commitment to delivering not only beautiful results but also a secure, supportive experience for every patient.
