Dr. Richard W. Maloney - Plastic Surgeon in Naples, FL

Dr. Maloney earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, an institution renowned for its research‑intensive environment and dedication to producing physician‑scientists. During his four years of study, he distinguished himself in anatomy, physiology, and pathology, earning several academic honors and participating in groundbreaking research on tissue regeneration. His dissertation, which explored the molecular pathways of wound healing in facial soft tissues, garnered national attention and laid a scientific foundation for his later innovations in facial plastic surgery.

Following medical school, Dr. Maloney pursued a residency in Otolaryngology at the University of Florida, where he refined his surgical skill set under the mentorship of world‑class faculty members. The UF Otolaryngology program is celebrated for its rigorous operative exposure, encompassing complex airway reconstructions, skull‑base tumor resections, and advanced facial plastic procedures. Throughout his residency, Dr. Maloney completed over 1,200 operative cases, demonstrating exceptional dexterity and an early aptitude for delicate facial anatomy.

While at the University of Florida, Dr. Maloney also engaged in a fellowship focused on facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, gaining specialized expertise in aesthetic rhinoplasty, brow lift, and mid‑face rejuvenation. He was selected for the prestigious AAFPRS Research Grant, allowing him to investigate the long‑term outcomes of minimally invasive facial lifts. This fellowship not only honed his technical proficiency but also reinforced his dedication to evidence‑based practice, a principle that continues to guide his clinical decisions today.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Maloney’s surgical repertoire is anchored in his dual training in otolaryngology and facial plastic surgery, granting him a unique perspective on the functional and aesthetic dimensions of the head and neck. His mastery of ENT‑Otolaryngology procedures—including advanced sinus surgery, vocal cord microsurgery, and reconstructive techniques for oncologic defects—ensures that patients receive comprehensive care that addresses both appearance and essential physiological function. He routinely collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to manage complex cases that require coordinated expertise across specialties.

In the realm of facial plastic surgery, Dr. Maloney is celebrated for his meticulous approach to rhinoplasty, facelifts, and eyelid rejuvenation. He applies a refined, anatomy‑first philosophy, preserving critical neurovascular structures while sculpting harmonious contours. His rhinoplasty outcomes are distinguished by natural, proportionate results that respect each patient’s ethnic heritage and facial proportions. Moreover, his expertise extends to corrective procedures for congenital anomalies, traumatic injuries, and post‑tumor resections, where functional restoration and aesthetic reconstruction are equally paramount.

One of Dr. Maloney’s signature techniques is the mid‑face lift, a procedure that addresses sagging of the cheeks, deep nasolabial folds, and loss of cheek volume—a common sign of aging. By employing a combination of sub‑periosteal dissection, strategic suspension sutures, and volume‑preserving fat grafting, he achieves a lift that is both subtle and enduring. His innovative “Hybrid Mid‑Face Lift” integrates endoscopic methods with limited open access, reducing operative time, minimizing scarring, and delivering results that appear organically youthful. The procedure has become a cornerstone of his practice, drawing patients from across the nation seeking a rejuvenated yet authentic appearance.

His commitment to evidence‑based protocols ensures that every surgical intervention is grounded in the latest research, minimizing complications and optimizing outcomes.

Through this organization, he contributes to the development of consensus guidelines on peri‑operative antibiotic stewardship, anesthesia management, and postoperative monitoring. He regularly presents case studies at national conferences, sharing insights on complication mitigation, patient selection, and innovative techniques that reduce operative trauma while preserving aesthetic integrity.
