Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Randy B. Miller embarked on his medical journey at the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. His undergraduate tenure was marked by a rigorous curriculum that combined molecular genetics, human anatomy, and biochemistry, providing a strong scientific foundation that would later inform his surgical precision. While at UF, he distinguished himself through research projects on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, publishing several peer‑reviewed articles that explored the potential of stem cell therapies for wound healing. These early scholarly pursuits cemented his fascination with the capacity of the human body to repair and regenerate—a fascination that would shape his future specialization in reconstructive plastic surgery.

Following his undergraduate success, Dr. Miller matriculated at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, one of the nation’s most prestigious medical schools renowned for its emphasis on clinical excellence and innovative research. At Sidney Kimmel, he excelled in the rigorous MD program, earning honors in surgical clerkships and receiving the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Clinical Performance. His clinical rotations spanned a diverse array of specialties, yet it was his exposure to complex craniofacial anomalies and intricate breast reconstruction cases that solidified his resolve to pursue plastic surgery. Throughout medical school, Dr. Miller was a consistent presence in the operating theater, absorbing the nuances of microsurgical techniques and developing a keen eye for aesthetic balance.

After obtaining his MD, Dr. Miller entered a highly competitive residency program in plastic and reconstructive surgery at a leading academic medical center. The residency, spanning six intensive years, provided comprehensive training in both cosmetic and reconstructive disciplines, encompassing everything from microsurgical free flap procedures to aesthetic facial rejuvenation. During this period, he earned multiple commendations, including “Resident of the Year,” a testament to his dedication, technical skill, and leadership among peers. He also completed fellowships in breast reconstruction and facial aesthetic surgery, where he refined his expertise in nipple‑sparing mastectomy techniques, autologous tissue transfer, and complex facial nerve reconstruction. These experiences equipped Dr. Miller with a versatile skill set that seamlessly integrates functional restoration with artistic refinement, positioning him as a surgeon capable of addressing the most demanding clinical challenges with confidence and compassion.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Miller’s surgical repertoire is distinguished by an expansive mastery of plastic surgery, reconstructive surgery, and cosmetic surgery, each performed with a meticulous focus on achieving optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes. In the realm of reconstructive surgery, he has become a go‑to specialist for complex wound management, trauma reconstruction, and congenital anomaly correction. His expertise in microsurgical techniques allows him to perform free tissue transfers with precision, restoring form and function in patients who have suffered severe soft‑tissue loss. Whether reconstructing a lower extremity after a motor vehicle accident or repairing a facial defect following oncologic resection, Dr. Miller’s strategic planning and execution ensure that the reconstructed tissue integrates seamlessly with surrounding structures, preserving sensation, mobility, and aesthetic harmony.

Cosmetic surgery represents another pillar of Dr. Miller’s practice, where his artistic sensibility shines. He offers a full spectrum of aesthetic procedures, ranging from minimally invasive treatments such as dermal fillers and laser resurfacing to comprehensive facial rejuvenation protocols that encompass rhytidectomy, blepharoplasty, and facial fat grafting. His approach to facial aesthetic surgery is rooted in a deep understanding of facial proportions, symmetry, and the subtle interplay of light and shadow that defines a youthful appearance. By employing advanced technologies like three‑dimensional imaging and computer‑guided simulation, Dr. Miller provides patients with a realistic preview of potential outcomes, fostering informed decision‑making and realistic expectations.

Breast reconstruction is a particular area of passion for Dr. Miller, where his dedication to restoring both form and femininity is evident in every case. He utilizes a variety of techniques, including implant‑based reconstruction, autologous tissue methods such as the DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) flap, and hybrid approaches that combine the benefits of both. His commitment to preserving the natural contour and sensation of the breast is reflected in his meticulous dissection, preservation of neurovascular structures, and careful placement of implants or autologous tissue to mimic the patient’s pre‑disease anatomy. Moreover, Dr. Miller’s compassionate bedside manner ensures that patients navigating the emotional complexities of mastectomy and reconstruction feel supported throughout their journey, reinforcing his reputation as a surgeon who balances technical excellence with empathetic care.
