His early investigations into the role of growth factors in tissue regeneration earned him multiple publications in peer‑reviewed journals, establishing a foundation for his later work in microsurgical reconstruction. Throughout medical school, Dr. Ambay consistently demonstrated a synthesis of clinical acumen and scientific inquiry, attributes that would later define his surgical practice.

Following his MD, Dr. Ambay pursued an unconventional yet profoundly influential fellowship at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. There, he studied health policy, leadership, and ethics, gaining a macro‑level perspective on how legislative frameworks and institutional governance shape patient access to care. This unique blend of clinical expertise and policy insight equipped him to navigate the complexities of modern healthcare delivery, advocating for patient‑centered reforms while maintaining a steadfast commitment to surgical excellence. His tenure at Harvard also afforded him the opportunity to collaborate with public health scholars on initiatives aimed at reducing disparities in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, an endeavor that continues to inform his community outreach efforts.

After completing his policy fellowship, Dr. Ambay returned to the operating theater for a rigorous residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery. He trained at premier institutions where he refined his technical capabilities in both elective cosmetic procedures and complex reconstructive cases. His residency emphasized a balanced curriculum that combined high‑volume aesthetic surgeries with intricate microsurgical reconstructions, such as free‑flap transfers for head and neck malignancies. This comprehensive training not only honed his dexterity with microsurgical instruments but also instilled a deep appreciation for the functional priorities that underpin successful aesthetic outcomes. Throughout his residency, Dr. Ambay was recognized with multiple honors for his surgical precision, leadership in multidisciplinary teams, and dedication to mentorship.
