Dr. Philip Young - Plastic Surgeon in Kirkland, WA

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Philip Young earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from a prestigious university medical school renowned for its rigorous curriculum and emphasis on research innovation. Throughout his four‑year program, he distinguished himself in the basic sciences, publishing peer‑reviewed articles on tissue engineering and wound healing that garnered recognition at national conferences. His clinical rotations were marked by an early fascination with reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, leading him to seek mentorship under leading faculty members who championed both functional restoration and cosmetic refinement. This foundation provided Dr. Young with a robust understanding of anatomy, physiology, and the biochemical pathways that underpin surgical healing, equipping him with the scientific acumen essential for high‑stakes operative decision‑making.

Following medical school, Dr. Young pursued a highly competitive integrated residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at a top-tier academic medical center. Over the course of six intensive years, he mastered the full spectrum of plastic surgery—from microsurgical free‑flap reconstruction to complex aesthetic procedures. His residency training emphasized a meticulous, step‑by‑step approach to operative planning, intra‑operative decision‑making, and postoperative care. He became proficient in the use of advanced technologies such as three‑dimensional imaging, laser-assisted surgery, and intra‑operative navigation systems, integrating these tools to enhance precision and reduce operative time. Dr. Young’s commitment to excellence was reflected in his scholarly output, as he authored multiple chapters on reconstructive techniques and contributed to influential guidelines on peri‑operative management.

To further refine his expertise, Dr. Young completed a fellowship focused on aesthetic surgery at a leading institution that is recognized for pioneering innovative procedures in breast, body, and facial aesthetics. During this fellowship, he performed hundreds of breast augmentations, liposuction cases, and abdominoplasties under the mentorship of internationally renowned surgeons. He also participated in clinical trials evaluating novel implant materials and fat‑transfer techniques, contributing to the body of evidence that informs current best practices. Upon completion, Dr. Young earned board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a testament to his mastery of both reconstructive and cosmetic disciplines. His ongoing participation in continuing medical education, peer‑reviewed workshops, and surgical symposiums ensures that he remains at the forefront of evolving techniques and emerging technologies.

Surgical Expertise

In the realm of breast augmentation, Dr. Philip Young is celebrated for his nuanced approach to implant selection, positioning, and incision planning. He conducts comprehensive pre‑operative assessments that incorporate patient anatomy, lifestyle considerations, and aesthetic goals, enabling him to recommend the optimal combination of implant size, shape, and surface texture. Dr. Young is adept at employing both subglandular and submuscular techniques, tailoring the plane of placement to achieve natural contour while minimizing the risk of capsular contracture. He also incorporates the latest advances in anatomical and cohesive gel implants, ensuring that patients benefit from reduced visibility of implant edges and enhanced durability. Throughout the procedure, he utilizes meticulous hemostasis and precise pocket creation to preserve surrounding tissue integrity, thereby facilitating a smoother recovery and a more natural‑looking result.

Liposuction, one of Dr. Young’s core specialties, is performed with an emphasis on sculptural precision and patient safety. He employs a combination of traditional suction‑assist technology and advanced energy‑based devices, such as ultrasound‑assisted and laser‑assisted lipolysis, to achieve uniform fat removal while preserving skin elasticity. Dr. Young’s technique involves strategic mapping of adipose deposits, followed by targeted cannula insertion that respects critical anatomical landmarks and neurovascular structures. By integrating real‑time ultrasound guidance, he can visualize subcutaneous layers and avoid inadvertent injury to underlying tissues. Post‑operative protocols are customized to each patient, incorporating compression garments, lymphatic drainage, and nutritional guidance to optimize contour stability and reduce postoperative edema.

When it comes to abdominoplasty, commonly known as the “tummy tuck,” Dr. Young combines his expertise in abdominal wall anatomy with a refined aesthetic eye to deliver results that are both functional and visually harmonious. He begins each case with a thorough evaluation of the patient’s abdominal musculature, skin laxity, and fat distribution, often employing three‑dimensional imaging to model expected outcomes. During surgery, he meticulously plicates weakened rectus abdominis muscles, excises excess skin, and repositions the umbilicus to achieve a flat, toned abdomen. Dr. Young also integrates adjunctive procedures, such as liposuction of the flank and lateral thigh areas, to create a seamless transition between the abdomen and surrounding contours. His commitment to preserving blood supply and minimizing tension on closure sites reduces the incidence of wound complications, while his attention to scar placement ensures that postoperative scars are discreet and fade progressively over time.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Dr. Philip Young’s dedication to patient safety is reflected in his active membership with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), an organization that sets the gold standard for ethical practice, clinical excellence, and continuous quality improvement. As a board‑certified member, Dr. Young adheres to ASPS’s rigorous guidelines for patient selection, operative protocols, and postoperative monitoring. He regularly participates in ASPS‑sponsored workshops and peer‑reviewed case studies, staying abreast of emerging safety data, infection control measures, and evidence‑based best practices. This affiliation not only underscores his commitment to upholding the highest professional standards but also provides his patients with the assurance that their care is guided by a framework recognized nationally for its uncompromising focus on safety and outcomes.

In recognition of his unwavering focus on patient-centered care, Dr. Young was honored with the Patient Choice Award, a distinction bestowed upon physicians who consistently demonstrate exceptional communication, empathy, and transparency throughout the treatment journey. The award is the result of extensive patient feedback, which highlights Dr. Young’s ability to explain complex procedures in understandable terms, address concerns promptly, and foster a collaborative decision‑making environment. This accolade reflects his philosophy that safety extends beyond the operating room; it encompasses informed consent, realistic expectation setting, and ongoing support that empowers patients to make confident choices about their aesthetic goals.

Beyond professional affiliations, Dr. Young has instituted a comprehensive safety infrastructure within his Kirkland practice that incorporates state‑of‑the‑art operating rooms, dedicated anesthesia teams, and stringent infection control protocols. He employs a pre‑operative checklist modeled after the World Health Organization’s Surgical Safety Checklist, ensuring that every critical step—from patient identity verification to equipment sterility—is confirmed before incision. Intra‑operative monitoring includes continuous vital sign surveillance, real‑time blood loss assessment, and the availability of advanced resuscitation equipment. Post‑operative care pathways are designed to detect early signs of complications, with dedicated nursing staff trained in wound assessment, pain management, and patient education. Together, these measures create a safety net that minimizes risk, enhances recovery, and reinforces Dr. Young’s reputation as a surgeon who places patient welfare at the forefront of every procedure.
