Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Howard’s academic journey began at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where he earned his MD with honors, distinguishing himself through a combination of scholarly research and clinical excellence. While at the university, he immersed himself in the foundational sciences of anatomy, physiology, and pathology, laying a robust groundwork for his future specialization. His research pursuits—particularly in tissue engineering and wound healing—were published in peer‑reviewed journals, signaling an early commitment to advancing the scientific underpinnings of reconstructive techniques. In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Howard served as a teaching assistant for undergraduate anatomy labs, where his ability to convey complex concepts with clarity foreshadowed his later role as a mentor to surgical residents.

Following medical school, Dr. Howard pursued a rigorous residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Alabama Hospital, a program renowned for its comprehensive exposure to both elective cosmetic procedures and complex reconstructive cases. Over the course of his six‑year residency, he refined his microsurgical skills, mastering free‑flap transfers, nerve coaptations, and intricate facial reanimation techniques. The breadth of his training encompassed craniofacial reconstruction after oncologic resections, hand surgery for traumatic injuries, and aesthetic refinements such as rhinoplasty and breast augmentation. Dr. Howard’s dedication to operative excellence was recognized with the Resident Scholar Award, a testament to his outstanding clinical performance, research contributions, and leadership within the department.

Eager to deepen his expertise in aesthetic surgery, Dr. Howard completed a prestigious fellowship in Paris, France, at the Institut de Chirurgie Esthétique, where he studied under some of Europe’s most celebrated aesthetic surgeons. This immersive experience exposed him to the avant‑garde of facial contouring, non‑invasive body sculpting, and the integration of artistic principles into surgical practice. In Paris, he honed his ability to sculpt the face with a nuanced understanding of proportion, harmony, and cultural aesthetics, while also mastering the latest minimally invasive technologies such as ultrasound‑guided liposuction and radiofrequency skin tightening. The fellowship not only expanded his technical repertoire but also deepened his appreciation for the global standards of patient safety, ethical practice, and the delicate balance between innovation and evidence‑based medicine.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Howard’s surgical portfolio reflects a seamless blend of plastic, cosmetic, reconstructive, and aesthetic specialties, each performed with an unwavering commitment to precision and patient‑centered outcomes. In the domain of plastic surgery, he excels in complex reconstructions that restore form and function after trauma, oncologic resections, or congenital anomalies. His expertise in microsurgical free‑tissue transfer has enabled him to successfully reconstruct large head and neck defects, lower extremity wounds, and intricate hand injuries, often employing perforator flaps that minimize donor‑site morbidity while maximizing tissue viability. Dr. Howard’s reconstructive acumen is further evidenced by his pioneering work in facial reanimation, where he utilizes nerve grafts and muscle transfers to restore expressive movement in patients with facial paralysis.

Within the cosmetic arena, Dr. Howard is celebrated for his meticulous approach to aesthetic surgery, delivering results that are both natural and enduring. His breast surgery repertoire includes augmentation, reduction, lift, and mastopexy procedures, each tailored to the patient’s anatomical considerations and aesthetic goals. He employs a combination of submuscular and subglandular implant placement techniques, along with advanced suture methods, to achieve optimal contour, symmetry, and scar concealment. In facial aesthetics, Dr. Howard’s rhinoplasty work is distinguished by his ability to harmonize nasal structure with overall facial proportions, utilizing precise osteotomies, cartilage grafting, and dorsal refinement to achieve functional and aesthetic excellence. His expertise extends to eyelid surgery, facelifts, and non‑surgical rejuvenation, where he integrates laser resurfacing, injectable fillers, and neuromodulators to provide comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Dr. Howard’s aesthetic surgery practice is further enriched by his adoption of cutting‑edge technologies that enhance precision while reducing recovery time. He routinely utilizes three‑dimensional imaging for preoperative planning, allowing patients to visualize anticipated outcomes and make informed choices. In body contouring, he employs high‑definition liposuction, VASER® ultrasound‑assisted techniques, and laser‑assisted fat removal, achieving sculpted results with minimal trauma to surrounding tissues. His commitment to continuous improvement is reflected in his participation in surgical workshops, conferences, and peer‑reviewed studies that explore novel approaches to scar management, tissue expansion, and regenerative medicine. Through this blend of artistic vision, scientific rigor, and technical mastery, Dr. Howard has established himself as a leading authority in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.
