Dr. Paul Rollins earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine in 1989, an institution renowned for its rigorous curriculum and emphasis on clinical excellence. During his time at SUNY Downstate, he distinguished himself academically, graduating with honors in a cohort noted for its dedication to both research and patient care. His medical education was marked by early exposure to a diverse patient population, which cultivated a deep appreciation for the social determinants of health and the importance of culturally competent care. This formative period laid the groundwork for his later specialization, as he consistently sought out opportunities to assist in reconstructive procedures and to understand the intricate relationship between form and function.

Following medical school, Dr. Rollins completed a demanding internship and residency in general surgery, where he honed his operative skills under the mentorship of seasoned surgeons who emphasized meticulous technique and unwavering attention to detail. His residency program, renowned for its high volume of complex cases, provided him with the opportunity to manage a wide spectrum of surgical challenges, from emergent abdominal emergencies to elective oncologic resections. Throughout this period, he cultivated a reputation for calm composure in the operating room, a trait that would later become a defining characteristic of his practice as a plastic surgeon.

Recognizing a profound interest in the transformative power of plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Rollins pursued a dedicated fellowship in plastic surgery at a leading academic center. This fellowship offered intensive exposure to both aesthetic and reconstructive disciplines, allowing him to master microsurgical techniques, flap design, and facial rejuvenation procedures. He also engaged in scholarly research, contributing to peer‑reviewed publications that explored innovative approaches to scar management and tissue engineering. The combination of his comprehensive medical education, rigorous surgical training, and commitment to academic inquiry equipped Dr. Rollins with the expertise and confidence to become a leader in his field, ready to serve patients with a blend of scientific rigor and artistic sensibility.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Rollins’ surgical repertoire encompasses the full breadth of plastic and reconstructive surgery, from aesthetic enhancements to complex congenital and acquired deformities. His expertise in facial rejuvenation includes advanced techniques such as facelifts, rhinoplasty, and eyelid surgery, each performed with a nuanced understanding of facial anatomy and aging patterns. He is also renowned for his mastery of body contouring procedures, including abdominoplasty, liposuction, and thigh lifts, where his precise sculpting yields natural, harmonious results that respect the patient’s unique body proportions. Moreover, Dr. Rollins has a distinguished record in breast surgery, offering both augmentation and reduction procedures, as well as reconstruction following mastectomy, utilizing state‑of‑the‑art implant and autologous tissue techniques to restore both form and function.

Beyond aesthetic surgery, Dr. Rollins has developed a specialized focus on rare dermatologic and connective‑tissue disorders, such as Bazex Syndrome, Acrogeria, Gottron Type dermatomyositis, and Stiff Skin Syndrome. His work with patients afflicted by these conditions demonstrates a rare combination of clinical empathy and technical ingenuity. For instance, in managing Bazex Syndrome—a paraneoplastic dermatosis—he collaborates closely with oncologists to coordinate timely tumor resection while simultaneously addressing the cutaneous manifestations that can cause significant functional impairment. In cases of Acrogeria, a rare premature aging disorder of the skin, Dr. Rollins employs innovative flap and graft techniques to restore flexibility and improve aesthetic outcomes, thereby enhancing quality of life for his patients.

When confronting Gottron Type dermatomyositis and Stiff Skin Syndrome, Dr. Rollins leverages his deep understanding of the underlying pathophysiology to tailor surgical interventions that mitigate contractures and improve mobility. He utilizes meticulous scar management protocols, including laser resurfacing and silicone therapy, to minimize postoperative fibrosis. His commitment to multidisciplinary care ensures that patients receive comprehensive treatment plans that integrate physical therapy, pharmacologic management, and surgical correction. This holistic approach not only addresses the visible aspects of these disorders but also profoundly impacts patients’ functional independence and psychological well‑being, underscoring Dr. Rollins’ dedication to delivering transformative care for even the most challenging cases.

As a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), he participates in ongoing professional development programs that emphasize the latest safety standards, risk mitigation strategies, and ethical considerations in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. His involvement with the ASPS also provides him access to a network of leading experts, ensuring that his practice remains at the forefront of emerging technologies and best practices. Dr. Rollins routinely integrates ASPS‑endorsed safety checklists, preoperative verification processes, and postoperative monitoring systems to safeguard every step of the patient journey.

In addition to his national affiliation, Dr. Rollins is an active participant in the Pennsylvania Society of Plastic Surgeons, where he collaborates with fellow surgeons to develop state‑wide guidelines that promote consistent, high‑quality care across diverse practice settings. Through this organization, he has contributed to the creation of educational workshops focused on infection control, anesthesia safety, and the management of surgical complications. His leadership in these initiatives reflects a deep commitment to fostering a culture of transparency and accountability, ensuring that every patient under his care benefits from the safest possible surgical environment.

Recognition of Dr. Rollins’ dedication to excellence is highlighted by his receipt of the Conemaugh Health System Excellence Award, a prestigious honor that celebrates outstanding contributions to patient safety, clinical outcomes, and community service. This award acknowledges his systematic implementation of safety protocols, such as real‑time data analytics to track surgical site infection rates and the adoption of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathways that accelerate patient convalescence while reducing complications.
