At Johns Hopkins, she distinguished herself not only through academic excellence but also through her active participation in clinical research projects that explored the molecular pathways of skin aging and the regenerative potential of novel biomaterials. Her dissertation, which examined the interplay between collagen synthesis and ultraviolet‑induced dermal damage, laid the groundwork for later clinical applications that would become hallmarks of her practice. The comprehensive training she received—spanning basic sciences, clinical rotations, and immersive surgical experiences—instilled in her a deep appreciation for evidence‑based medicine and an unwavering commitment to patient safety.

Prior to her medical degree, Dr. Sherber completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Maryland, where she majored in Biochemistry with a minor in Human Development. Her undergraduate years were marked by a blend of rigorous laboratory work and community outreach, as she volunteered at local health clinics to provide basic dermatologic care to underserved populations. This early exposure to health disparities ignited her lifelong advocacy for equitable access to aesthetic and reconstructive procedures, a principle that continues to inform her practice philosophy. The analytical skills honed during her biochemistry studies—particularly her proficiency in interpreting complex data sets and designing methodical experiments—proved invaluable during her subsequent residency and fellowship training, where she routinely applied quantitative analysis to optimize surgical techniques.

Following medical school, Dr. Sherber pursued a highly competitive residency in dermatology at a top‑ranked academic medical center, where she refined her surgical skills under the mentorship of world‑renowned skin cancer specialists. During her residency, she completed a fellowship focused on cosmetic dermatology and reconstructive surgery, gaining hands‑on experience with advanced laser technologies, micro‑grafting procedures, and minimally invasive aesthetic interventions. She also earned board certification from the American Board of Dermatology, a testament to her mastery of both clinical dermatology and surgical artistry. Throughout her training, Dr. Sherber maintained an unwavering dedication to scholarly activity, authoring multiple peer‑reviewed articles that explored innovative approaches to treating collagen disorders and enhancing postoperative scar outcomes.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Sherber’s surgical repertoire is distinguished by a seamless integration of dermatologic precision and aesthetic finesse. Her expertise in dermatology provides a foundational understanding of skin biology that informs every aspect of her surgical planning, from the selection of incision sites to the management of postoperative wound healing. She has pioneered techniques that combine laser resurfacing with subdermal filler placement, achieving superior texture improvement while minimizing the risk of pigmentary changes—a common concern among patients with diverse skin tones. Moreover, her proficiency in cosmetic dermatology enables her to tailor interventions that address both superficial and deep structural concerns, delivering results that are harmonious, natural, and long‑lasting.

In the realm of collagen disorders, Dr. Sherber has become a leading authority on the diagnosis and surgical management of conditions such as Ehlers‑Danlos syndrome, cutis laxa, and localized scleroderma. She employs a meticulous diagnostic algorithm that incorporates genetic testing, histopathological analysis, and three‑dimensional imaging to accurately characterize the extent of collagen dysfunction. Once diagnosed, she utilizes a combination of autologous tissue grafts, dermal matrix scaffolds, and innovative bio‑engineered collagen implants to restore structural integrity and improve functional outcomes. Her research has demonstrated that these multimodal approaches can significantly reduce postoperative complications, accelerate tissue regeneration, and enhance patient satisfaction.

Skin cancer treatment represents another pillar of Dr. Sherber’s surgical practice. Leveraging her extensive training in oncologic dermatology, she performs precise excisions of basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma with a focus on preserving aesthetic units and minimizing scar formation. She is adept at employing Mohs micrographic surgery—a technique that offers the highest cure rates while sparing healthy tissue—and integrates adjunctive therapies such as photodynamic therapy and topical immunomodulators to address field cancerization. In addition, Dr. Sherber actively participates in clinical trials investigating novel immunotherapies and targeted agents for advanced melanoma, underscoring her commitment to advancing the standard of care for patients facing life‑threatening dermatologic malignancies.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Patient safety is the cornerstone of Dr. Sherber’s practice, a principle that is reflected in her active involvement with several leading professional societies. As a member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), she adheres to the Academy’s rigorous standards for clinical excellence, participating in continuing medical education programs that emphasize the latest advances in procedural safety, infection control, and patient communication. Her engagement with the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) further reinforces her dedication to adopting evidence‑based surgical techniques, as she regularly contributes to consensus guidelines on the safe use of dermal fillers, laser devices, and minimally invasive body contouring procedures.

Within the state of Maryland, Dr. Sherber holds a distinguished position as a fellow of the Dermatology Society of Maryland, where she collaborates with peers to develop region‑specific safety protocols that address the unique demographic and environmental factors influencing skin health. Her leadership in this organization has resulted in the implementation of statewide initiatives that promote early detection of skin cancer, standardized pre‑operative assessments, and post‑operative monitoring frameworks designed to reduce adverse events. In recognition of her unwavering commitment to safety and quality, Dr. Sherber was honored with the Dermatology Excellence Award in 2022, an accolade that celebrates physicians who demonstrate exceptional clinical outcomes, innovative research, and exemplary patient care.

Beyond professional affiliations, Dr. Sherber has instituted a comprehensive, multi‑layered safety infrastructure within her own practice. This includes the use of real‑time intraoperative imaging, standardized checklists modeled after aviation safety protocols, and a dedicated patient safety officer who oversees compliance with sterility standards and post‑procedure follow‑up. She also employs a robust informed consent process that incorporates visual aids, digital simulations, and individualized risk assessments, ensuring that patients are fully aware of potential complications and realistic expectations.
