During his time at the Health Science Center, he contributed to several peer‑reviewed publications focusing on tissue engineering and wound healing, thereby laying a scientific foundation that would later inform his reconstructive techniques. His commitment to academic excellence was recognized with multiple honors, including the Dean’s List and the Outstanding Student Research Award, underscoring his early dedication to merging scientific inquiry with surgical practice.

Following medical school, Dr. Tarola pursued a residency in plastic surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, a program renowned for its comprehensive exposure to complex reconstructive and aesthetic procedures. Over the course of his six‑year residency, he refined a broad skill set that spanned microsurgical free‑flap transfers, craniofacial reconstruction, and advanced cosmetic interventions. The residency’s demanding schedule—characterized by high‑volume operative cases, intensive didactic sessions, and multidisciplinary case conferences—honed his ability to make swift, evidence‑based decisions under pressure. Moreover, his mentorship under nationally recognized faculty members fostered a deep appreciation for surgical artistry, encouraging him to view each patient’s anatomy as a living canvas upon which functional restoration and aesthetic refinement could coexist.

In addition to his formal training, Dr. Tarola sought out fellowships and continuing medical education opportunities to stay at the forefront of emerging techniques. He completed a specialized fellowship in facial aesthetic surgery, where he mastered the latest minimally invasive procedures, such as endoscopic brow lifts and volumizing dermal fillers. This fellowship also provided him with hands‑on experience in three‑dimensional facial analysis, enabling him to predict postoperative outcomes with remarkable accuracy. Throughout his educational journey, Dr. Tarola remained committed to lifelong learning, regularly attending conferences hosted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and publishing case studies that contribute to the evolving body of plastic surgery literature.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Tarola’s surgical repertoire encompasses a wide spectrum of cosmetic surgery procedures, each performed with an emphasis on natural results and patient safety. His expertise in facial rejuvenation includes facelifts, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, and non‑surgical skin tightening modalities that address both static and dynamic signs of aging. By employing a combination of traditional open techniques and innovative endoscopic approaches, he minimizes incision length, reduces postoperative swelling, and accelerates recovery, all while preserving the delicate facial nerve structures that are essential for expressive movement. His meticulous pre‑operative planning incorporates 3‑D imaging and computer‑assisted simulation, allowing patients to visualize potential outcomes and make informed decisions about their aesthetic goals.

In the realm of reconstructive surgery, Dr. Tarola excels in restoring form and function after trauma, oncologic resections, and congenital defects. His proficiency in microsurgical free‑flap reconstruction enables him to transfer vascularized tissue from distant donor sites to complex defects, achieving optimal tissue match and reducing the risk of postoperative complications. He has successfully performed intricate breast reconstructions using autologous tissue (such as DIEP flaps) and implant‑based techniques, tailoring each approach to the patient’s anatomy, oncologic history, and personal preferences. His reconstructive work extends to hand surgery, where he repairs intricate tendon injuries and restores fine motor function, underscoring his versatility across the plastic surgery spectrum.

Body contouring is another cornerstone of Dr. Tarola’s practice, encompassing procedures such as abdominoplasty, liposuction, thigh lifts, and arm lifts. He utilizes advanced liposuction technologies—such as ultrasound‑assisted and laser‑assisted devices—to selectively target adipose tissue while preserving surrounding structures, resulting in smoother contours and a reduced incidence of seroma formation. For patients seeking comprehensive transformation, he combines multiple body‑contouring procedures in a staged approach, ensuring that each surgical phase is optimized for safety and aesthetic harmony. His dedication to postoperative care includes personalized rehabilitation protocols, which incorporate physiotherapy and scar management strategies, thereby maximizing functional outcomes and long‑term patient satisfaction.

His board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) signifies a rigorous evaluation of his knowledge, technical skill, and ethical conduct, ensuring that he meets the stringent criteria required to practice at the apex of his specialty.

Within Tennessee, Dr. Tarola is an esteemed member of the Tennessee Society of Plastic Surgeons, where he collaborates with fellow surgeons to address regional health concerns, advocate for patient education, and foster a culture of continuous quality improvement. Post‑operatively, his team conducts rigorous follow‑up visits, employs validated pain‑assessment tools, and leverages telemedicine platforms for remote monitoring, ensuring that any complications are identified and addressed promptly.
