Dr. Mohsen Tavoussi’s academic journey began with a distinguished undergraduate tenure in biomedical sciences, where he graduated with honors, laying a solid foundation for his subsequent medical pursuits. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from the University of Southern California, a program renowned for its emphasis on holistic patient care, musculoskeletal integration, and the osteopathic philosophy of treating the whole person rather than isolated symptoms. At USC, Dr. Tavoussi distinguished himself through research focused on tissue regeneration and wound healing, publishing multiple peer‑reviewed articles that explored the interplay between cellular signaling pathways and postoperative scar formation. His commitment to academic excellence was recognized with the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Clinical Performance, reflecting his early aptitude for both patient interaction and surgical precision.

Driven by a desire to deepen his clinical expertise, Dr. Tavoussi pursued a second doctorate, earning a Medical Doctor (MD) degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). At UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine, he immersed himself in a rigorous curriculum that blended cutting‑edge biomedical research with high‑volume clinical rotations. During his residency, he was selected for the prestigious Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency Program, a competitive pathway that provided comprehensive exposure to reconstructive and aesthetic surgery across a spectrum of complex cases. His time at UCLA was marked by a series of accolades, including the Resident Scholar Award for Innovation in Surgical Technique, underscoring his early contributions to the evolution of minimally invasive approaches within plastic surgery.

Following his residency, Dr. Tavoussi completed a fellowship in aesthetic surgery at a nationally recognized academic center, where he refined his mastery of facial rejuvenation, breast aesthetics, and body contouring. The fellowship emphasized advanced microsurgical methods, submuscular implant placement, and the nuanced art of rhinoplasty, allowing him to hone a skill set that would later define his practice in Newport Beach. Throughout his training, Dr. Tavoussi remained an active participant in national conferences, presenting case studies that highlighted novel applications of autologous fat grafting and the integration of three‑dimensional printing for pre‑operative planning. These formative experiences not only solidified his technical competence but also instilled a lifelong commitment to continual learning and mentorship, values that he now imparts to the next generation of surgeons.

Surgical Expertise

Rhinoplasty stands as one of Dr. Tavoussi’s signature procedures, reflecting a blend of artistic vision and meticulous technical execution that has earned him a reputation as a leading nasal sculptor on the West Coast. He employs a patient‑centered, computer‑assisted planning process that begins with high‑resolution imaging, allowing him to map the structural nuances of each patient’s nasal framework and anticipate postoperative aesthetic outcomes. Whether performing a subtle dorsal refinement or a comprehensive reconstructive overhaul, Dr. Tavoussi integrates open and closed techniques judiciously, preserving cartilage integrity while achieving precise tip definition and harmonious facial proportion. His expertise extends to functional rhinoplasty, where he simultaneously addresses airway obstruction, ensuring that aesthetic improvements are accompanied by enhanced respiratory function. This dual focus on form and function has resulted in a portfolio of outcomes that consistently receive commendation from both patients and peers alike.

In the realm of breast aesthetics, Dr. Tavoussi offers a full spectrum of procedures, ranging from augmentation and lift to reduction and reconstruction. His approach to cosmetic breast surgery is distinguished by a rigorous evaluation of breast anatomy, skin elasticity, and patient lifestyle, which informs his selection of implant type, placement, and incision strategy. Submuscular augmentation, in particular, reflects his commitment to achieving natural‑appearing results while minimizing visible scarring and optimizing implant coverage. Dr. Tavoussi’s proficiency with both silicone and saline implants, as well as his adeptness at employing anatomical shaping techniques, enables him to tailor each procedure to the patient’s desired silhouette, whether the goal is subtle enhancement or dramatic transformation. He also employs advanced fat grafting methods to refine contour, improve symmetry, and address postoperative volume loss, thereby delivering comprehensive, long‑lasting results.

Beyond the face and chest, Dr. Tavoussi’s plastic surgery repertoire encompasses a wide array of body contouring and facial rejuvenation procedures, including abdominoplasty, liposuction, and facial fillers. His expertise in submuscular augmentation extends to the gluteal region, where he utilizes meticulous dissection planes to ensure implant stability and reduce the risk of nerve injury. In facial aesthetics, he masters the strategic placement of dermal fillers to restore volume, define contours, and soften dynamic lines, employing a nuanced understanding of facial anatomy to achieve natural, age‑appropriate outcomes. Dr. Tavoussi’s comprehensive skill set enables him to address the unique aesthetic aspirations of each patient, delivering results that are harmonious, durable, and reflective of an individualized aesthetic philosophy.
