Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Mimi P. Martins earned her medical degree from the distinguished Ross University School of Medicine, where she distinguished herself not only through academic excellence but also through a relentless pursuit of surgical knowledge. At Ross, she engaged in a rigorous curriculum that blended foundational biomedical science with intensive clinical rotations across multiple specialties, laying the groundwork for her future specialization in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Her time at Ross was marked by a series of research projects focusing on tissue regeneration, wound healing, and the molecular pathways that underpin scar formation—areas that would later become central to her innovative surgical techniques.

Following her graduation, Dr. Martins embarked on a comprehensive residency program that emphasized both breadth and depth of clinical experience. She completed a demanding family medicine residency, where she honed her diagnostic acumen, cultivated a deep appreciation for primary care, and mastered the art of patient communication. This period was pivotal, as it reinforced her belief that successful surgical outcomes are inextricably linked to robust pre‑operative health, meticulous post‑operative care, and the continuity of care provided by primary care physicians. Her residency also included rotations in dermatology, oncology, and reconstructive procedures, granting her a multi‑disciplinary perspective that informs her nuanced approach to aesthetic surgery.

To further refine her expertise, Dr. Martins pursued advanced fellowships in plastic and reconstructive surgery at leading academic centers. These fellowships provided her with hands‑on experience in microsurgical techniques, craniofacial reconstruction, and aesthetic facial procedures. Under the mentorship of globally recognized surgeons, she mastered complex flap reconstructions, facial rejuvenation, and body contouring strategies, integrating the latest evidence‑based practices with her own innovative modifications. The culmination of her rigorous educational journey is reflected in her meticulous surgical planning, precision execution, and a commitment to continuous learning that keeps her at the forefront of the evolving field of plastic surgery.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Martins’ surgical repertoire is anchored in a robust foundation of family medicine and primary care, disciplines that have endowed her with a comprehensive understanding of patient health beyond the operating theater. Her early career in family medicine cultivated a keen sensitivity to the systemic factors that influence surgical risk, such as metabolic health, cardiovascular status, and psychosocial determinants. This cross‑disciplinary insight enables her to tailor peri‑operative protocols that optimize patient safety, accelerate recovery, and minimize complications, thereby setting a gold standard for integrated surgical care. Moreover, her primary care background equips her with an empathetic bedside manner, ensuring that patients feel heard, respected, and fully informed throughout their surgical journey.

In the realm of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Martins is renowned for her mastery of facial rejuvenation, breast augmentation, and body contouring procedures. Her facial aesthetic work—encompassing rhinoplasty, facelifts, and blepharoplasty—demonstrates a meticulous balance between preserving natural anatomy and achieving harmonious enhancement. She leverages advanced technologies such as 3‑D imaging, laser-assisted lipolysis, and ultrasonographic guidance to achieve precise tissue manipulation, reduced operative time, and superior aesthetic outcomes. In breast surgery, Dr. Martins employs a patient‑specific approach, offering options ranging from anatomical implants to autologous tissue reconstruction, each selected to align with the individual’s body proportions, lifestyle, and personal goals.

Beyond aesthetic procedures, Dr. Martins excels in complex reconstructive surgery, including trauma reconstruction, scar revision, and oncologic reconstruction. Her proficiency in microsurgical techniques allows her to perform free‑tissue transfers and intricate flap reconstructions with remarkable success rates. She is also adept at managing postoperative complications, employing evidence‑based interventions to address issues such as seroma formation, infection, and wound dehiscence. Dr. Martins’ surgical dexterity, combined with her holistic medical background, renders her a versatile surgeon capable of delivering both transformative aesthetic results and life‑changing reconstructive solutions.
