Dr. Michael Sheinis - Plastic Surgeon in Huntington, NY

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Michael Sheinis embarked on his academic journey at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree with distinction. The rigorous curriculum at UF emphasized both foundational sciences and clinical dexterity, providing Dr. Sheinis with a comprehensive understanding of oral anatomy, biomaterials, and restorative techniques. Throughout his undergraduate dental education, he consistently ranked among the top percentile of his class, reflecting an early aptitude for meticulous craftsmanship and an inquisitive mindset toward complex dental pathologies. His scholarly pursuits were complemented by active participation in research projects focused on craniofacial growth patterns, laying the groundwork for his future specialization.

Following his DDS, Dr. Sheinis pursued an Orthodontic Residency at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, a program renowned for its intensive clinical exposure and pioneering research initiatives. The residency demanded mastery of biomechanical principles, digital orthodontic planning, and interdisciplinary case coordination. Dr. Sheinis excelled in managing intricate malocclusions, skeletal discrepancies, and temporomandibular joint disorders, often collaborating with oral and maxillofacial surgeons to devise comprehensive treatment plans. His tenure at Michigan culminated in a thesis exploring the long‑term stability of three‑dimensional orthodontic corrections, which earned commendation from faculty and contributed to the evolving discourse on orthodontic retention strategies.

Beyond the formal residency, Dr. Sheinis sought additional refinement through fellowship experiences that emphasized dentofacial orthopedics and aesthetic facial surgery. He attended advanced workshops at premier institutions, mastering the integration of orthodontic mechanics with surgical protocols to achieve harmonious facial outcomes. These supplementary trainings deepened his appreciation for the synergistic relationship between dental alignment and facial contour, reinforcing his conviction that optimal aesthetic results require a seamless blend of orthodontic precision and surgical artistry. The cumulative effect of his education and training established Dr. Sheinis as a clinician equipped with both the scientific rigor and creative insight necessary for delivering transformative facial procedures.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Sheinis’s surgical repertoire is anchored in the sophisticated discipline of orthodontics, where his expertise extends from conventional fixed‑appliance therapy to cutting‑edge clear‑aligner systems. He has successfully treated thousands of patients with a spectrum of malocclusions, ranging from mild crowding to severe skeletal discrepancies that necessitate orthognathic surgery. His command of biomechanical principles enables him to design individualized force vectors that guide teeth precisely into their intended positions while preserving periodontal health. By employing digital treatment planning platforms, Dr. Sheinis visualizes the entire trajectory of tooth movement, allowing patients to preview their future smiles and enhancing compliance throughout the treatment course.

In the realm of dentofacial orthopedics, Dr. Sheinis distinguishes himself through a nuanced understanding of growth modulation and skeletal remodeling. He utilizes a combination of functional appliances, temporary anchorage devices (TADs), and surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion to address complex craniofacial anomalies in both adolescent and adult populations. His surgical interventions are meticulously coordinated with orthodontic mechanics to ensure that skeletal corrections are stabilized and refined over time. This interdisciplinary approach has yielded remarkable outcomes, such as the correction of severe Class III malocclusions, restoration of facial symmetry after trauma, and the harmonization of jaw relationships in patients with obstructive sleep apnea.

Beyond the orthodontic sphere, Dr. Sheinis has cultivated a reputation for performing aesthetic facial surgeries that complement his dental expertise. While his primary focus remains on orthodontic and orthopedics, he frequently collaborates with board‑certified plastic surgeons to execute procedures such as chin augmentation, mandibular contouring, and lip repositioning. These collaborative cases underscore his commitment to delivering comprehensive facial rejuvenation, where dental alignment and skeletal aesthetics converge. By integrating surgical precision with orthodontic foresight, Dr. Sheinis achieves outcomes that not only elevate a patient’s smile but also enhance overall facial harmony, confidence, and quality of life.

Patient safety is the cornerstone of Dr. Michael Sheinis’s practice, a principle reinforced by his active affiliations with the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the New York State Dental Association (NYSDA). Through these professional organizations, Dr. Sheinis remains at the forefront of evolving safety protocols, infection control standards, and ethical guidelines that govern dental and surgical care. He routinely participates in continuing education seminars that address emerging risks, sterilization technologies, and patient‑centered risk management, ensuring that his clinical environment adheres to the most stringent benchmarks of safety and quality.

Dr. Sheinis’s commitment to safety is further reflected in his systematic implementation of evidence‑based clinical pathways. Prior to any orthodontic or surgical intervention, he conducts comprehensive medical evaluations, radiographic assessments, and risk stratifications to identify potential contraindications. He utilizes state‑of‑the‑art digital imaging and three‑dimensional modeling to anticipate anatomical challenges, thereby reducing intra‑operative surprises and postoperative complications. Moreover, his office employs a robust emergency response protocol, including immediate access to advanced life‑support equipment and a trained staff team, guaranteeing rapid and effective management of any unforeseen events.

The recognition of Dr. Sheinis’s dedication to excellence is evident in the accolades he has received from both the community and professional peers.
