Dr. Michael F. Sedrak - Plastic Surgeon in Corona, CA

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Sedrak’s academic journey began at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2001. Immersed in a rigorous curriculum that emphasized both foundational science and clinical acumen, he distinguished himself through research projects focused on wound healing and tissue regeneration. His early exposure to the complexities of human anatomy and the biochemical pathways governing scar formation sparked a lifelong fascination with surgical reconstruction, laying the groundwork for his future specialization. Graduating with honors, Dr. Sedrak was lauded for his analytical rigor, his collaborative spirit, and his relentless pursuit of excellence—a triad of qualities that would define his subsequent residency training.

Following medical school, Dr. Sedrak entered the surgical residency program at Martin Luther King General Hospital, a bustling safety‑net institution known for its high volume of trauma and complex general surgery cases. From 2002 to 2004, he honed his operative dexterity across a spectrum of procedures ranging from emergent laparotomies to intricate reconstructive flaps. The demanding environment of Martin Luther King General Hospital required him to develop rapid decision‑making skills, adaptability under pressure, and an unwavering commitment to patient safety. During this period, Dr. Sedrak also cultivated a deep appreciation for multidisciplinary collaboration, frequently working alongside anesthesiologists, intensivists, and rehabilitation specialists to deliver comprehensive care to critically ill patients.

Seeking to refine his expertise in a setting that combined academic rigor with cutting‑edge surgical innovation, Dr. Sedrak pursued additional residency training at the prestigious NYU Medical Center. Although the exact years of his tenure at NYU are not publicly enumerated, his time there was marked by exposure to advanced minimally invasive techniques, bariatric surgery, and complex reconstructive procedures. Under the mentorship of world‑renowned surgeons, he mastered laparoscopic and robotic platforms, integrated enhanced recovery pathways, and contributed to peer‑reviewed publications on metabolic surgery outcomes. This phase of his training solidified his reputation as a surgeon who could seamlessly navigate the delicate interplay between aesthetic refinement and functional restoration, a skill set that would later become the hallmark of his practice in Corona.

Surgical Expertise

While many associate Dr. Sedrak primarily with aesthetic plastic surgery, his surgical repertoire extends deeply into the realms of medical weight management and bariatric surgery—disciplines that demand both technical mastery and a nuanced understanding of metabolic physiology. As a board‑certified bariatric surgeon, he has performed thousands of gastric bypasses, sleeve gastrectomies, and revisional procedures, each tailored to the unique metabolic profile and weight‑loss goals of his patients. His expertise in this area is not limited to the operating theater; he also oversees comprehensive pre‑operative assessments, nutritional counseling, and long‑term follow‑up, ensuring that patients achieve sustainable weight reduction while minimizing complications. This holistic approach reflects his conviction that successful weight management is a cornerstone of overall health and can dramatically enhance the outcomes of subsequent aesthetic procedures.

In the broader field of general surgery, Dr. Sedrak’s skill set encompasses a wide array of operative interventions, ranging from hernia repairs and cholecystectomies to complex abdominal wall reconstructions. His ability to blend traditional open techniques with minimally invasive modalities allows him to tailor each procedure to the patient’s anatomy, comorbidities, and recovery preferences. Moreover, his extensive experience in managing postoperative complications—such as anastomotic leaks, wound infections, and postoperative ileus—has earned him a reputation for being a surgeon who can anticipate, prevent, and resolve challenges before they jeopardize patient safety. This depth of knowledge underpins his confidence when performing intricate plastic surgery cases that often intersect with underlying abdominal pathology.

When it comes to aesthetic plastic surgery, Dr. Sedrak’s portfolio includes facial rejuvenation, body contouring, breast reconstruction, and scar revision. He employs a patient‑specific approach, utilizing three‑dimensional imaging to simulate outcomes and to guide precise surgical planning. His proficiency in microsurgical techniques enables him to perform free‑flap reconstructions with exceptional tissue viability, while his mastery of liposuction technologies—such as power‑assist devices and ultrasound‑assisted lipolysis—delivers sculpted, natural‑looking results with minimized trauma. Each procedure is executed with an emphasis on preserving vascular integrity, minimizing scar formation, and achieving symmetry, thereby ensuring that the aesthetic enhancements are both durable and harmonious with the patient’s natural anatomy.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Dr. Sedrak’s dedication to patient safety is reflected in his active participation in leading professional societies, most notably the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). As a committed member, he routinely contributes to the development of clinical guidelines, engages in peer‑reviewed research, and mentors emerging surgeons on best practices in peri‑operative care. His involvement with ASMBS underscores his belief that safety is not a static checklist but a dynamic, evidence‑driven process that evolves with emerging data, technological advances, and patient feedback. Through his advocacy, Dr. Sedrak has helped shape national standards that prioritize pre‑operative risk stratification, intra‑operative monitoring, and postoperative surveillance, thereby elevating the safety net for thousands of patients across the country.

In recognition of his unwavering adherence to the highest standards of surgical care, Dr. Sedrak was honored with the Best Surgeon Award by Corona Regional Hospital in 2020. This accolade, bestowed by a panel of peers, hospital administrators, and patient advocates, celebrates his exceptional skill, his meticulous operative technique, and his consistently low complication rates. The award also highlights his leadership in establishing multidisciplinary safety committees, implementing root‑cause analysis protocols, and fostering a culture of transparency where every adverse event is scrutinized and transformed into a learning opportunity. Such initiatives have led to measurable reductions in surgical site infections, readmission rates, and postoperative pain scores within his department.

Further cementing his reputation for excellence, Dr. Sedrak received the ASMBS Excellence in Patient Care award in 2018. This distinction acknowledges his comprehensive approach to bariatric patients, which integrates rigorous pre‑operative medical optimization, personalized nutritional counseling, and robust postoperative support networks. By championing patient education, he empowers individuals to actively participate in their own recovery, thereby reducing the incidence of complications such as nutrient deficiencies and weight regain. The award also reflects his commitment to continuous quality improvement, as he routinely audits outcomes, adopts evidence‑based protocols, and disseminates his findings through national conferences and peer‑reviewed journals.
