The Perelman environment nurtured his curiosity, fostering a deep appreciation for the interplay between cellular biology and clinical practice—a foundation that would later inform his surgical techniques and patient care strategies.

Following medical school, Dr. Mahlberg pursued a comprehensive residency in dermatology, where he honed his diagnostic acumen and developed a nuanced understanding of skin pathology. His residency, conducted at a leading academic medical center, combined intensive clinical rotations with hands‑on procedural training, allowing him to master a broad spectrum of dermatologic interventions ranging from laser therapy to complex excisional procedures. His proficiency in Mohs surgery enables him to eradicate skin cancers with microscopic precision, often achieving cure rates exceeding 99 percent while minimizing cosmetic compromise. This expertise extends to the management of high‑risk basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas, where he employs adjunctive therapies such as topical immunomodulators and photodynamic therapy to achieve comprehensive disease control.

Beyond oncologic surgery, Dr. Mahlberg is celebrated for his reconstructive capabilities, particularly in facial and trunk reconstruction following tumor excision or traumatic injury. He skillfully employs local flaps, tissue expansion, and microsurgical techniques to restore form and function, ensuring that postoperative scars are inconspicuous and that vital structures—such as nerves and vessels—are preserved. His work in reconstructive surgery is informed by a deep understanding of vascular anatomy and wound healing dynamics, allowing him to tailor closure strategies that reduce tension, promote optimal scar maturation, and enhance overall aesthetic outcomes.

In addition to his dermatologic and reconstructive acumen, Dr. Mahlberg has cultivated a distinguished practice in cosmetic plastic surgery, offering procedures such as facelifts, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, and body contouring. He integrates the precision of his dermatologic background with the artistic sensibility required for aesthetic enhancements, employing technologies like 3‑D imaging, ultrasonic liposuction, and laser resurfacing to achieve harmonious results.
