Dr. Mark H Jensen - Plastic Surgeon in American Fork, UT

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Mark H Jensen earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the prestigious Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors and was recognized for his academic excellence in anatomy and surgical sciences. His tenure at Mayo was distinguished not only by stellar grades but also by an early involvement in research projects that explored the molecular pathways of wound healing, culminating in several peer‑reviewed publications. The rigorous curriculum at Mayo, which blends early clinical exposure with a deep immersion in evidence‑based medicine, laid a foundation of critical thinking and disciplined inquiry that would shape his future surgical career.

Following medical school, Dr. Jensen pursued a Residency in General Surgery at the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education, a program renowned for its demanding operative volume and comprehensive exposure to complex abdominal, thoracic, and vascular procedures. During his five‑year residency, he logged over 2,000 operative cases, mastering the fundamentals of tissue handling, hemostasis, and peri‑operative management. His commitment to excellence was recognized with the Resident of the Year award, reflecting his ability to balance high‑stakes surgical responsibilities with compassionate patient care. The residency also afforded him the opportunity to mentor junior residents, fostering a collaborative environment that emphasized safety and continuous improvement.

In 2011, Dr. Jensen completed a Fellowship in Plastic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education, where he refined his expertise in both reconstructive and aesthetic procedures. This fellowship provided intensive hands‑on training in microsurgical techniques, craniofacial reconstruction, and aesthetic facial rejuvenation, allowing him to develop a nuanced understanding of the interplay between form, function, and patient expectations. He participated in multidisciplinary tumor boards, working alongside oncologists and radiologists to devise comprehensive treatment plans for patients with head and neck malignancies. The fellowship also emphasized research, and Dr. Jensen contributed to groundbreaking studies on adipose‑derived stem cells, positioning him at the vanguard of regenerative plastic surgery.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Jensen’s surgical repertoire spans the full spectrum of Plastic Surgery, encompassing both cosmetic and reconstructive domains with equal proficiency. In the realm of Cosmetic Surgery, he is celebrated for his mastery of facial rejuvenation techniques, including facelifts, brow lifts, and eyelid revisions, each performed with an emphasis on preserving natural expression and minimizing visible scarring. His approach to body contouring—such as abdominoplasty, liposuction, and thigh lifts—combines precise sculpting with meticulous attention to postoperative scar placement, ensuring that aesthetic outcomes are both harmonious and discreet. Patients frequently commend his ability to achieve subtle enhancements that align with their intrinsic facial proportions, a testament to his artistic sensibility and technical skill.

Reconstructive Surgery represents another cornerstone of Dr. Jensen’s practice, where he applies his expertise to restore form and function after trauma, oncologic resections, or congenital anomalies. His work in breast reconstruction, for instance, utilizes both implant‑based and autologous techniques, including the deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap, which offers superior aesthetic results while preserving donor site integrity. In complex craniofacial reconstruction, he employs microsurgical free tissue transfer and computer‑guided osteotomy planning to achieve precise anatomical restoration, often collaborating with neurosurgeons and orthodontists to optimize functional outcomes. His dedication to reconstructive excellence is reflected in high patient satisfaction scores and a low incidence of postoperative complications.

Beyond individual procedures, Dr. Jensen has pioneered the integration of cutting‑edge technologies such as laser-assisted skin resurfacing, radiofrequency tightening, and injectable fillers to complement surgical interventions. He maintains a comprehensive aesthetic clinic where non‑surgical modalities are employed to fine‑tune results, enhance skin quality, and extend the longevity of surgical outcomes. His commitment to lifelong learning ensures that he remains adept at incorporating emerging techniques—such as stem‑cell‑enriched fat grafting and 3‑D‑printed scaffolds—into his practice, thereby offering patients a full spectrum of options that blend traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Patient safety is the cornerstone of Dr. Jensen’s clinical philosophy, a principle reinforced through his active involvement with premier professional organizations. As a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), he adheres to the society’s rigorous standards for ethical practice, continuing education, and peer review. His participation in ASPS’s safety committees allows him to contribute to the development of national guidelines on peri‑operative protocols, infection control, and postoperative monitoring, ensuring that his patients benefit from the most current evidence‑based safeguards. Additionally, his affiliation with the Utah Society of Plastic Surgeons underscores his commitment to regional collaboration, where he engages in regular case conferences and safety audits that promote a culture of transparency and continuous quality improvement.

Recognition of Dr. Jensen’s dedication to excellence is reflected in several prestigious awards. In 2020, he was honored with the Best Cosmetic Surgeon Award – Utah, a distinction that acknowledges not only his artistic skill but also his unwavering focus on patient safety and satisfaction. Two years later, he received the Top Doctor Award – Utah, an accolade conferred by a panel of peers who evaluated his clinical outcomes, patient feedback, and adherence to safety protocols. These honors are complemented by his active membership in the American Medical Association (AMA), where he contributes to policy discussions on surgical standards, patient consent, and health‑care quality metrics. His involvement in AMA’s Physician Wellness Initiative further highlights his holistic approach to safety, recognizing that a surgeon’s well‑being is integral to delivering optimal patient care.

In practice, Dr. Jensen implements a multilayered safety framework that begins with comprehensive pre‑operative assessment, including detailed medical history, laboratory testing, and risk stratification. He employs standardized surgical checklists modeled after the World Health Organization’s Safe Surgery Checklist, ensuring that every step—from antibiotic prophylaxis to instrument counts—is verified. Intra‑operatively, he utilizes advanced monitoring technologies, such as near‑infrared spectroscopy for tissue perfusion and intra‑operative neuromonitoring, to detect and mitigate complications in real time. Post‑operatively, he coordinates multidisciplinary follow‑up care, providing patients with clear instructions, access to 24‑hour support, and scheduled evaluations to promptly address any concerns. This systematic, patient‑centric approach has resulted in complication rates that consistently fall below national averages, reinforcing his reputation as a surgeon who prioritizes safety without compromising aesthetic excellence.
