His scholarly pursuits included a thesis on the regenerative potential of autologous stem cells in facial reconstruction, a project that later garnered recognition for its innovative contribution to the field of plastic surgery.

Following medical school, Dr. Hochman pursued a residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of North Carolina Hospitals, a premier training ground known for its high case volume and multidisciplinary approach. Over the course of his residency, he mastered a broad spectrum of reconstructive and aesthetic procedures, ranging from complex microsurgical free‑flap reconstructions to nuanced facial rejuvenation techniques. He was repeatedly selected for elite surgical rotations, including a year‑long immersion in craniofacial surgery, where he honed his skills in addressing congenital anomalies, trauma, and oncologic defects with precision and creativity. His dedication earned him the Resident Scholar Award for outstanding contributions to surgical education and patient care.

After completing his residency, Dr. Hochman further refined his expertise through a Fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, a world‑class institution celebrated for its pioneering research and cutting‑edge clinical practice. Under the mentorship of leading authorities in facial aesthetics and reconstructive microsurgery, he deepened his knowledge of advanced rhinoplasty, facial nerve reconstruction, and aesthetic facial contouring. The fellowship provided him with exposure to innovative technologies such as 3‑D facial mapping, computer‑assisted surgical planning, and laser‑assisted tissue remodeling. This comprehensive training equipped Dr. Hochman with the rare combination of scientific rigor, artistic vision, and technical mastery that defines his practice today.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Hochman’s surgical repertoire is anchored in a profound understanding of head and neck anatomy, enabling him to perform intricate procedures with confidence and safety. His expertise in head and neck surgery encompasses the management of complex oncologic resections, reconstruction of post‑traumatic defects, and restoration of functional mobility after nerve injury. He frequently utilizes microvascular free‑flap techniques, harvesting tissue from distant donor sites to reconstruct large defects while preserving vascular integrity and minimizing donor‑site morbidity. His meticulous approach to vascular anastomosis and flap inset ensures optimal perfusion, leading to high success rates and swift postoperative recovery.

In the realm of facial plastic surgery, Dr. Hochman is celebrated for his mastery of both reconstructive and aesthetic procedures. He has performed thousands of rhinoplasties, each tailored to the patient’s unique skeletal framework, skin thickness, and aesthetic goals. By integrating computer‑generated simulations with intra‑operative navigation, he achieves harmonious balance between dorsal height, tip projection, and nasal symmetry. His facelift techniques combine traditional SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) manipulation with modern tension‑free suturing, delivering natural‑looking rejuvenation that respects the patient’s age‑appropriate anatomy. Dr. Hochman also excels in facial reconstructive surgery following tumor excision or traumatic injury, employing layered closure, cartilage grafting, and soft‑tissue flaps to restore both form and function.

Beyond standard cosmetic procedures, Dr. Hochman is a sought‑after specialist for complex facial reconstruction and aesthetic refinement. He routinely addresses congenital deformities such as cleft lip and palate, utilizing multidisciplinary planning with speech therapists and orthodontists to achieve optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes. His expertise extends to facial nerve reconstruction, where he employs nerve grafts and neurotization techniques to restore facial expression and symmetry. In cosmetic facial surgery, he offers a comprehensive suite of services, including brow lifts, eyelid surgery, and volume restoration with autologous fat transfer or dermal fillers, always guided by a philosophy of subtle enhancement rather than overt alteration.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Dr. Hochman’s dedication to patient safety is reflected in his active involvement with leading professional societies that set the gold standard for ethical practice and clinical excellence. He is a proud member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), where he contributes to continuing education initiatives and participates in peer‑review panels that evaluate emerging techniques for safety and efficacy. His affiliation with the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) underscores his commitment to advancing facial surgery through rigorous scientific inquiry and adherence to best‑practice guidelines. Additionally, as a member of the South Carolina Plastic Surgery Society, Dr. Hochman collaborates with regional colleagues to promote community outreach, safety protocols, and patient education across the state.
