Dr. Lisa C. Moody - Plastic Surgeon in Duluth, GA

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Moody earned her medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine, an institution renowned for its rigorous curriculum, groundbreaking research, and emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration. At Stanford, she distinguished herself not only through academic excellence but also through her involvement in pioneering clinical studies that explored the molecular underpinnings of wound healing and scar formation. Her early exposure to translational research instilled a lifelong curiosity about the biological mechanisms that dictate surgical outcomes, a curiosity that continues to inform her clinical practice and drives her participation in ongoing clinical trials. Throughout her medical school years, Dr. Moody consistently demonstrated an ability to synthesize complex scientific concepts with compassionate patient care, a duality that earned her multiple honors and mentorship awards.

Following her MD, Dr. Moody pursued a highly competitive residency in Plastic Surgery at Stanford University, where she refined the technical dexterity and decision‑making acumen required of a modern plastic surgeon. The residency program, known for its demanding operative volume and diverse case mix, provided her with exposure to a full spectrum of reconstructive and aesthetic procedures—from microsurgical free‑flap reconstructions to intricate facial rejuvenation. Under the tutelage of nationally recognized faculty, Dr. Moody mastered the nuances of flap design, tissue expansion, and aesthetic proportion, while also developing a meticulous approach to pre‑operative planning and post‑operative monitoring. Her residency culminated in a series of scholarly presentations and publications that addressed novel approaches to breast reconstruction and innovative scar revision techniques.

In addition to her formal training, Dr. Moody sought out fellowships and advanced workshops that allowed her to deepen her expertise in specialized areas such as breast surgery, craniofacial reconstruction, and laser‑assisted cosmetic procedures. She traveled internationally to observe emerging techniques in South Korea and Europe, integrating best practices from global centers of excellence into her own operative repertoire. This commitment to continuous learning has positioned her as a thought leader within the plastic surgery community, frequently invited to lecture at national conferences and to mentor emerging surgeons seeking to emulate her blend of academic rigor and clinical excellence.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Moody’s surgical portfolio encompasses the full gamut of plastic surgery, with a particular emphasis on procedures that blend functional restoration with aesthetic refinement. In reconstructive surgery, she has performed thousands of complex wound closures, flap reconstructions, and tissue transfers, often restoring form and function for patients who have suffered trauma, oncologic resections, or congenital anomalies. Her expertise in microsurgery enables her to execute delicate free‑flap procedures with a success rate that consistently exceeds national benchmarks, delivering outcomes that restore mobility, sensation, and appearance. Whether reconstructing a facial defect after tumor excision or repairing a severe burn injury, Dr. Moody applies a patient‑specific algorithm that balances surgical feasibility with the long‑term quality of life.

Cosmetic surgery remains a cornerstone of Dr. Moody’s practice, where her artistic eye and technical precision converge to produce natural‑looking enhancements. She offers a comprehensive suite of facial rejuvenation procedures—including rhytidectomy, blepharoplasty, and non‑invasive skin tightening—each tailored to the patient’s unique facial architecture and aesthetic goals. Dr. Moody also specializes in body contouring, employing advanced liposuction technologies, tummy tucks, and thigh lifts that prioritize smooth contours, minimal scarring, and rapid recovery. Her approach to cosmetic surgery is underpinned by a philosophy that true beauty respects the patient’s intrinsic features, and therefore, every incision line, volume adjustment, and tissue manipulation is performed with restraint and purpose.

Breast surgery, both reconstructive and aesthetic, represents a focal point of Dr. Moody’s clinical practice. In the realm of reconstruction, she offers autologous options such as DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) flaps, which preserve abdominal integrity while providing natural‑looking breast tissue. She also utilizes implant‑based techniques, integrating acellular dermal matrices and innovative pocket placements to achieve optimal symmetry and durability. On the aesthetic side, Dr. Moody performs augmentation, lift, and reduction procedures that are customized to each patient’s chest wall anatomy, skin quality, and personal desires. Her meticulous pre‑operative imaging and three‑dimensional modeling allow patients to visualize potential outcomes, fostering informed consent and realistic expectations.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Patient safety is the bedrock upon which Dr. Moody builds every surgical encounter, a principle reinforced by her active involvement in professional societies dedicated to the advancement of safe practice standards. As a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), she adheres to the organization’s stringent guidelines for operative protocols, infection control, and postoperative monitoring. Dr. Moody regularly contributes to ASPS task forces that develop evidence‑based recommendations for emerging technologies, ensuring that her patients benefit from innovations that have been rigorously vetted for safety and efficacy. Her participation in these national forums also allows her to disseminate best practices to peers, fostering a culture of safety that extends beyond her own practice.

Within the state of Georgia, Dr. Moody holds active membership in the Georgia Plastic Surgery Society, where she collaborates with fellow surgeons to address region‑specific challenges such as rural access to specialized care and the implementation of statewide surgical safety checklists. Her leadership role in the society has facilitated the development of continuing medical education programs focused on peri‑operative risk assessment, anesthesia safety, and enhanced recovery pathways. These initiatives have directly translated into measurable reductions in surgical site infection rates and readmission frequencies across participating practices, underscoring Dr. Moody’s impact on systemic quality improvement.

Recognition of Dr. Moody’s dedication to excellence came in the form of the Wellstar Physician of the Year award in 2022, an honor that acknowledges her outstanding contributions to patient care, education, and community health. The award highlighted her implementation of a comprehensive pre‑operative optimization protocol that incorporates cardiopulmonary risk stratification, nutritional assessment, and psychosocial screening. By integrating these multidisciplinary evaluations into the surgical workflow, Dr. Moody has achieved a demonstrable decline in postoperative complications and an increase in patient satisfaction scores. Her commitment to safety is not a static checklist but a dynamic, data‑driven process that evolves with each new piece of evidence, ensuring that her patients receive care that is both cutting‑edge and responsibly grounded.
