In doing so, Dr. Benest ensures that her practice remains at the forefront of innovation while staying true to the core principle that the patient’s voice is the guiding compass of every aesthetic journey.

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Lisa Benest’s academic foundation was forged at the prestigious University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with honors. Throughout her medical school tenure, she distinguished herself as a scholar‑practitioner, consistently ranking in the top percentile of her class and receiving multiple accolades for clinical excellence and research contributions. Her curriculum was enriched by a series of immersive rotations that spanned general surgery, internal medicine, and, most notably, an intensive dermatology clerkship that ignited her passion for skin health and aesthetic medicine. She completed a rigorous research thesis on the molecular pathways of collagen remodeling, a project that was later published in a leading dermatologic journal and laid the groundwork for her later innovations in minimally invasive cosmetic procedures.

Following her MD, Dr. Benest pursued a comprehensive residency program that seamlessly blended surgical rigor with dermatologic specialization. She was accepted into the highly competitive Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency at a tertiary academic center, where she honed her operative skills under the mentorship of world‑renowned reconstructive and aesthetic surgeons. Her residency emphasized complex craniofacial reconstruction, microsurgical techniques, and aesthetic facial procedures, providing a robust platform for mastering both functional and cosmetic dimensions of plastic surgery. Concurrently, she completed a dedicated fellowship in Medical Dermatology, where she deepened her expertise in skin pathology, laser therapies, and the management of benign and malignant cutaneous conditions. This dual training afforded her a unique perspective that bridges the gap between surgical restoration and dermatologic preservation, allowing her to approach each patient’s concerns with a comprehensive, interdisciplinary lens.

Dr. Benest’s commitment to lifelong learning extended beyond formal residency and fellowship training. She pursued board certification through the American Board of Plastic Surgery, achieving fellowship status after a rigorous examination process that evaluated her clinical acumen, operative competence, and ethical judgment. In addition, she earned certification from the American Board of Dermatology, a rare dual credential that underscores her mastery of both surgical and dermatologic disciplines. Her post‑graduate education includes advanced courses in facial anatomy, aesthetic refinement, and emerging technologies such as 3‑D printing for custom implant fabrication. She has also attended specialized workshops on laser resurfacing, photodynamic therapy, and radiofrequency skin tightening, ensuring that her practice remains at the cutting edge of both procedural innovation and evidence‑based patient care.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Benest’s surgical repertoire is distinguished by a seamless integration of medical dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, and skin cancer surgery, a triad that enables her to address a wide spectrum of aesthetic and therapeutic challenges. In the realm of medical dermatology, she excels in diagnosing and managing complex dermatoses, employing a nuanced understanding of immunologic pathways, genetic predispositions, and environmental triggers. Her expertise includes the treatment of chronic inflammatory conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, where she utilizes targeted biologic therapies and phototherapy to achieve disease control while minimizing systemic side effects. This depth of knowledge informs her aesthetic practice, allowing her to tailor interventions that respect the underlying health of the skin, thereby optimizing outcomes and reducing complications.

In cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Benest is renowned for her mastery of minimally invasive procedures that deliver natural, long‑lasting results. She employs state‑of‑the‑art technologies such as ultrafine micro‑needling, high‑intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), and fractional laser resurfacing to stimulate collagen neogenesis, improve skin texture, and correct subtle volume deficits. Her aesthetic philosophy emphasizes preservation over augmentation, favoring techniques that rejuvenate the patient’s own tissue rather than relying on excessive filler or implant placement. She is also proficient in advanced injectables, including hyaluronic acid fillers, calcium hydroxylapatite, and neuromodulators, which she administers with a meticulous eye for facial vectors, muscular dynamics, and age‑appropriate volumetric restoration. Her approach is characterized by a bespoke treatment plan that aligns with each patient’s unique aesthetic aspirations and physiological considerations.

Dr. Benest’s expertise in skin cancer surgery reflects a commitment to oncologic vigilance and aesthetic reconstruction. She has performed thousands of excisions for basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma, employing Mohs micrographic surgery in conjunction with precise margin analysis to achieve complete tumor clearance while preserving maximal healthy tissue. Her reconstructive skill set includes local flap design, tissue expansion, and grafting techniques that restore both form and function after oncologic resection. She frequently integrates adjunctive therapies such as cryotherapy, photodynamic therapy, and topical immunomodulators to address field cancerization and reduce recurrence risk. By melding oncologic rigor with aesthetic sensibility, Dr. Benest ensures that patients emerge from cancer surgery not only disease‑free but also confident in their healed appearance, reinforcing her reputation as a surgeon who balances therapeutic imperatives with the artistry of facial rejuvenation.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Patient safety is the cornerstone of Dr. Benest’s practice, a principle reinforced by her active involvement in leading professional organizations such as the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and the California Dermatology Association (CDA). As a member of the AAD’s Safety and Quality Committee, she contributes to the development of clinical guidelines that standardize procedural protocols, infection control measures, and postoperative monitoring across dermatologic practices nationwide. Her participation in the CDA’s Continuing Medical Education (CME) initiatives ensures that her staff remains current on the latest safety standards, from sterile technique to patient positioning, thereby fostering a culture of vigilance that permeates every aspect of the clinical environment.

Dr. Benest’s dedication to excellence was formally recognized in 2022 when her practice was honored with the Best Dermatology Practice Award, a distinction that evaluates practices on criteria such as patient satisfaction, clinical outcomes, and adherence to safety benchmarks. This accolade reflected her implementation of a comprehensive risk management program that incorporates pre‑operative screening tools, multidisciplinary case reviews, and real‑time adverse event reporting. She has instituted robust protocols for managing anticoagulation, allergic reactions, and anesthesia complications, ensuring that each patient’s unique risk profile is carefully assessed and mitigated before any procedure. Moreover, her clinic employs a state‑of‑the‑art electronic health record (EHR) system that integrates decision‑support alerts, medication reconciliation, and automated follow‑up reminders, thereby reducing the likelihood of medical errors and enhancing continuity of care.

Beyond institutional safeguards, Dr. Benest prioritizes patient education as a critical component of safety. She conducts detailed pre‑procedure counseling sessions that outline potential risks, expected outcomes, and postoperative care instructions, empowering patients to recognize early signs of complications and seek timely intervention. Her practice provides 24/7 access to a dedicated nursing line, enabling patients to report concerns promptly and receive expert guidance. In addition, she has established a post‑operative surveillance program that utilizes telemedicine platforms for remote wound assessments, thereby facilitating early detection of infection or suboptimal healing without the need for unnecessary clinic visits. These layered safety strategies underscore Dr. Benest’s unwavering commitment to protecting patient well‑being while delivering superior aesthetic results.
