Meet Katarzyna Ostrzenska: Philosophy and Approach
Dr. Katarzyna Ostrzenska approaches the art and science of plastic surgery with a philosophy that marries aesthetic precision to compassionate patient care. From the earliest days of her medical career, she recognized that every face and body tells a story, and that the role of a surgeon is to honor that narrative while enhancing the individual's confidence and well‑being. Her guiding principle, “beauty is personal, not universal,” informs every consultation, ensuring that each patient’s unique desires are balanced against realistic outcomes, anatomical harmony, and long‑term health. Dr. Ostrzenska’s practice is built on an interdisciplinary mindset: she collaborates closely with dermatologists, psychologists, and nutritionists to create comprehensive treatment plans that address not only the visible aspects of transformation but also the underlying physiological and emotional factors that influence postoperative satisfaction.
Beyond technical mastery, Dr. Ostrzenska emphasizes the importance of education and empowerment. She spends considerable time in pre‑operative meetings demystifying procedural steps, discussing potential risks, and setting clear expectations. By fostering an environment where patients feel fully informed, she reduces anxiety and promotes shared decision‑making, a cornerstone of her patient‑centered model. Her meticulous attention to detail extends to the design phase of every surgery, where she employs advanced three‑dimensional imaging and computer‑assisted simulation to preview results, allowing patients to visualize the subtle changes that will shape their future self. This transparent, data‑driven approach has become a hallmark of her practice, earning her a reputation for delivering outcomes that are both natural‑looking and enduring.
Dr. Ostrzenska’s approach to postoperative care is equally rigorous. She has instituted a structured follow‑up protocol that integrates cutting‑edge wound‑care technologies, personalized rehabilitation exercises, and regular psychological check‑ins to monitor patient well‑being. Recognizing that the healing process is as critical as the surgical act itself, she has assembled a dedicated team of nurses, physical therapists, and aesthetic specialists who work in concert to minimize scar formation, optimize tissue remodeling, and ensure that the patient’s functional recovery proceeds without compromise. In this way, Dr. Ostrzenska transforms the traditional surgeon‑patient relationship into a long‑term partnership, where the ultimate goal is not simply a successful operation, but a sustained improvement in quality of life.

Her early exposure to cutting‑edge regenerative medicine sparked a lifelong fascination with the interplay between cellular biology and aesthetic outcomes, a curiosity that would later shape her innovative techniques in plastic surgery. At Warsaw Medical University, Dr. Ostrzenska also completed rotations in general surgery, otolaryngology, and dermatology, gaining a broad foundation that would later inform her holistic perspective on facial and body contouring.
Following graduation, Dr. Ostrzenska pursued a demanding residency in internal medicine at a leading teaching hospital in Warsaw, where she refined her diagnostic acumen and honed her ability to manage complex, multisystemic conditions. This internal medicine training granted her a deep understanding of systemic health, an asset that proves invaluable when evaluating surgical candidates and anticipating peri‑operative challenges. Recognizing the growing need for physicians skilled in addiction medicine, she subsequently completed a fellowship in Addiction Medicine, becoming one of the few surgeons in Europe to hold such dual expertise. This fellowship not only equipped her with evidence‑based strategies for managing substance‑use disorders but also instilled a profound empathy for patients navigating recovery, a quality that permeates her compassionate approach to postoperative pain management and opioid stewardship.
To broaden her surgical repertoire, Dr. Ostrzenska sought advanced training in cosmetic medicine and aesthetic procedures in the United States. She completed a fellowship in Cosmetic Medicine at a renowned institute in New York, where she mastered the latest minimally invasive techniques, including injectable neurotoxins, dermal fillers, and laser resurfacing. During this period, she also attended intensive workshops on facial rejuvenation, breast augmentation, and body contouring, learning from world‑leading pioneers in the field. Dr. Ostrzenska’s surgical expertise spans a remarkable spectrum, integrating her internal medicine background with a refined focus on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Her proficiency in internal medicine informs her pre‑operative assessments, allowing her to identify subtle systemic conditions—such as hypertension, diabetes, or autoimmune disorders—that could impact wound healing or anesthetic risk. This comprehensive medical lens enables her to optimize patients’ health before entering the operating room, thereby reducing complications and accelerating recovery. In the operating theater, she employs a meticulous, step‑by‑step methodology that blends traditional surgical principles with contemporary, minimally invasive techniques, ensuring that each incision is strategically placed to maximize aesthetic benefit while preserving vital neurovascular structures.
In the realm of addiction medicine, Dr. Ostrzenska has pioneered protocols that seamlessly integrate peri‑operative pain management with opioid‑sparing strategies. She utilizes multimodal analgesia, combining regional nerve blocks, non‑opioid analgesics, and targeted use of low‑dose ketamine to control postoperative discomfort while minimizing the risk of dependence. Her expertise in addiction medicine also positions her as a trusted advisor for patients with a history of substance use, guiding them through safe surgical pathways that respect their recovery journey. By incorporating evidence‑based screening tools and personalized counseling, she fosters an environment where patients feel supported, ultimately enhancing adherence to postoperative instructions and improving overall outcomes.
Cosmetic medicine is perhaps the most visible facet of Dr. Ostrzenska’s practice, where she has become renowned for her mastery of facial rejuvenation, body contouring, and non‑surgical enhancements. Her expertise with Botox (Botulinum toxin type A) is particularly noteworthy; she has completed specialized certification courses that delve into the pharmacodynamics, injection techniques, and safety profiles of neurotoxins. Dr. Ostrzenska’s nuanced approach to Botox transcends simple wrinkle reduction; she employs the toxin to address hyperhidrosis, migraine prophylaxis, and facial asymmetry, thereby expanding its therapeutic utility. Her dedication to staying at the forefront of aesthetic innovation is reflected in her adoption of advanced technologies such as ultrasonic-assisted liposuction, laser‑assisted skin tightening, and 3‑D printed surgical guides, which collectively enhance precision, reduce operative time, and improve patient satisfaction.

Moreover, her participation in the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) underscores her dedication to integrating safe prescribing practices, substance‑use screening, and comprehensive postoperative support into every surgical plan. Through ASAM, she collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to develop protocols that safeguard patients from opioid misuse while still delivering effective analgesia.

Beyond accolades, Dr. Ostrzenska has instituted a robust, multilayered safety framework within her clinic. She employs a comprehensive checklist system modeled after the World Health Organization’s Surgical Safety Checklist, customizing it to address the unique nuances of aesthetic procedures. Each operative case undergoes a pre‑operative “time‑out” where the surgical team verifies patient identity, procedure details, implant specifications, and allergy status. Intra‑operatively, she utilizes real‑time monitoring technologies, including pulse oximetry, capnography, and non‑invasive blood pressure tracking, to promptly identify physiologic changes. Post‑operatively, she maintains an electronic registry that tracks complications, infection rates, and readmission statistics, enabling continuous performance assessment and rapid implementation of corrective measures. This systematic, data‑driven approach ensures that patient safety is not an afterthought but a continuous, measurable commitment embedded in every facet of her practice.
