Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Soika earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the internationally recognized Saba University School of Medicine, where she distinguished herself as a scholar‑practitioner with a keen interest in surgical anatomy and patient safety. During her time at Saba, she completed a rigorous curriculum that blended basic sciences, clinical rotations, and research initiatives, culminating in a thesis on the biomechanical properties of scar tissue remodeling. Her academic excellence was complemented by leadership roles in student organizations, where she advocated for curricular reforms that emphasized evidence‑based practice and cross‑disciplinary collaboration. This foundational training instilled in Dr. Soika a disciplined approach to clinical problem‑solving and a deep appreciation for the scientific underpinnings of surgical innovation.

Following her MD, Dr. Soika pursued a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences, focusing on regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. Her graduate research explored the application of autologous platelet‑rich plasma in enhancing wound healing, a study that later informed her clinical protocols for postoperative care. The master’s program refined her analytical skills, allowing her to critically evaluate emerging literature, design robust clinical trials, and integrate translational research findings into everyday practice. It also provided her with a platform to publish in peer‑reviewed journals, establishing her early reputation as a clinician‑researcher dedicated to advancing the field of plastic surgery through scientific rigor.

To translate her academic foundation into operative expertise, Dr. Soika completed a demanding General Surgery Residency Program at a high‑volume academic medical center known for its complex trauma and oncologic cases. The residency offered exhaustive exposure to a broad spectrum of surgical disciplines, including intensive care unit (ICU) management, emergency surgery, and minimally invasive techniques. She emerged from the program with board certification in General Surgery, a reputation for decisive leadership in the surgical intensive care unit (SICU), and a refined skill set that emphasized precision, efficiency, and patient safety. The residency’s emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration and evidence‑based guidelines laid the groundwork for her subsequent fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery, where she would synthesize her general surgical acumen with aesthetic artistry.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Soika’s surgical repertoire is anchored in a robust foundation of general surgery, where she mastered the intricacies of abdominal, thoracic, and vascular procedures. Her experience in the SICU sharpened her ability to manage complex peri‑operative physiology, anticipate complications, and implement rapid, evidence‑based interventions. This background equips her with a unique perspective on tissue viability, hemostasis, and postoperative recovery—principles that are directly translatable to the delicate tissue handling required in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Whether navigating the challenges of a multivisceral resection or orchestrating a microsurgical free flap, Dr. Soika’s general surgical training ensures that she approaches each case with a comprehensive understanding of systemic implications and an unwavering focus on patient safety.

In the realm of plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Soika has distinguished herself as an authority in both functional restoration and aesthetic refinement. She routinely performs complex reconstructions for breast cancer survivors, employing autologous tissue techniques such as DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) flap reconstruction to achieve natural‑looking results while preserving donor‑site function. Her expertise extends to craniofacial reconstruction, where she utilizes osteocutaneous flaps and computer‑guided mandibular modeling to restore form and function after traumatic injury or congenital anomalies. In addition to these intricate procedures, Dr. Soika is adept at managing chronic wound care, employing advanced modalities such as negative pressure wound therapy, bioengineered skin substitutes, and hyperbaric oxygen to accelerate healing in patients with diabetic ulcers, pressure injuries, and radiation‑induced tissue breakdown.

Beyond reconstructive mastery, Dr. Soika’s cosmetic surgery practice reflects a sophisticated blend of artistry and technique. She offers a full spectrum of aesthetic procedures—including rhinoplasty, facelifts, eyelid surgery, breast augmentation, and body contouring—each tailored to the patient’s unique anatomy and aesthetic goals. Her approach to facial rejuvenation incorporates the latest minimally invasive technologies, such as thread lifts, laser resurfacing, and volumizing fillers, to achieve natural, harmonious results with minimal downtime. In breast surgery, she combines precise implant selection with meticulous pocket dissection to ensure symmetry, durability, and a personalized silhouette. Throughout her cosmetic practice, Dr. Soika emphasizes long‑term maintenance, providing comprehensive postoperative protocols that incorporate scar management, skin health optimization, and lifestyle counseling to sustain the benefits of surgical transformation.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Dr. Soika’s devotion to patient safety is reflected in her active memberships with the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), and the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO). As a certified member of the ACS, she adheres to the organization’s rigorous standards for surgical competence, ethical practice, and continuous quality improvement. She regularly participates in ACS-sponsored workshops on peri‑operative risk assessment, infection control, and surgical ergonomics, integrating these best practices into her Greenwich clinic and operating suites. Her involvement with the ASPS further underscores her commitment to the highest aesthetic standards, as she contributes to policy development, peer‑reviewed research, and educational initiatives that promote safe, evidence‑based cosmetic procedures.

Recognition of Dr. Soika’s safety‑focused leadership is evident in the prestigious accolades she has received. In 2022, she was honored with the Best Cosmetic Surgeon Award, a distinction that acknowledges not only her superior aesthetic outcomes but also her unwavering dedication to meticulous pre‑operative planning, intra‑operative vigilance, and postoperative monitoring. Two years earlier, she earned the Outstanding Surgeon of the Year award, a testament to her exemplary performance across a spectrum of surgical disciplines, her mentorship of junior surgeons, and her role in advancing institutional safety protocols. These honors reflect her reputation as a surgeon whose patients can trust that every facet of their care—from the first consultation to the final follow‑up—will be conducted with the utmost diligence and compassion.

Beyond awards, Dr. Soika has instituted a comprehensive patient safety program within her practice that aligns with the Joint Commission’s standards for surgical excellence. This program includes mandatory time‑out procedures, standardized surgical safety checklists, and real‑time monitoring of intra‑operative parameters using advanced anesthesia and telemetry systems. She also employs a robust incident reporting system that encourages staff to document near‑miss events, facilitating continuous learning and process refinement. By fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and relentless improvement, Dr. Soika ensures that every patient benefits from a surgical environment where safety is not an afterthought but the foundation upon which all artistic and reconstructive endeavors are built.
