Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Bourgeois earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, where she distinguished herself academically and clinically, graduating with honors in the top decile of her class. At Tulane, she embraced an interdisciplinary curriculum that emphasized both surgical precision and patient‑centered communication, completing rigorous rotations in general surgery, dermatology, and oncology. Her research during medical school focused on wound healing dynamics in post‑mastectomy patients, resulting in a peer‑reviewed publication that explored novel biomaterial scaffolds to improve scar quality. This early investigative work foreshadowed her lifelong commitment to integrating scientific innovation with surgical practice.

Following medical school, Dr. Bourgeois secured a coveted position in the Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency program at the University of California, Irvine—a highly competitive pathway that combines comprehensive general surgery training with specialized plastic surgery exposure. Over the course of her seven‑year residency, she mastered the full spectrum of reconstructive and aesthetic procedures, from microsurgical free‑tissue transfer to complex facial rejuvenation. At UC Irvine, she was mentored by pioneers in craniofacial reconstruction, gaining hands‑on experience with cutting‑edge technologies such as three‑dimensional printing for custom implant fabrication and intraoperative navigation systems that enhance precision in delicate anatomical regions.

In addition to her formal residency, Dr. Bourgeois pursued fellowship‑level training in aesthetic breast surgery and facial cosmetic techniques, completing advanced workshops at renowned institutions across the United States and Europe. She earned board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery after a rigorous examination process, affirming her expertise and adherence to the highest standards of surgical competence. Throughout her academic journey, Dr. Bourgeois remained an active contributor to scholarly discourse, presenting at national conferences, authoring chapters in leading plastic surgery textbooks, and serving as a peer reviewer for prestigious journals. Her educational foundation, built upon both academic excellence and relentless clinical refinement, equips her to deliver outcomes that are both scientifically sound and artistically superior.

Surgical Expertise

In the realm of breast cosmetic surgery, Dr. Bourgeois has refined a suite of techniques that prioritize natural aesthetics, symmetry, and patient comfort. She offers customized breast augmentation using a range of implant options—silicone, saline, anatomical, and round—selected in concert with each patient’s chest wall dimensions, tissue characteristics, and lifestyle considerations. Her meticulous approach to incision placement, whether inframammary, periareolar, or transaxillary, minimizes visible scarring while preserving nipple sensation. For patients seeking reduction, she employs the Wise pattern or vertical scar techniques, integrating precise tissue resection and reshaping to achieve lasting relief from musculoskeletal strain and a proportionate silhouette. Throughout these procedures, she utilizes intraoperative imaging and computer‑assisted planning to anticipate postoperative outcomes and ensure optimal implant positioning.

Body contouring represents another cornerstone of Dr. Bourgeois’s practice, where she orchestrates comprehensive transformations for patients after massive weight loss or those desiring sculpted contours. Her expertise spans abdominoplasty, thigh lifts, arm lifts, and liposuction, each performed with an emphasis on preserving vascular integrity and minimizing postoperative complications. She leverages advanced technologies such as power‑assisted liposuction, ultrasound‑assisted fat removal, and high‑definition sculpting to achieve smooth, natural lines that harmonize with the patient’s underlying musculature. For patients requiring extensive tissue removal, she integrates progressive tension suturing and meticulous layered closure techniques to reduce seroma formation and enhance scar quality, thereby delivering results that stand the test of time.

Facial cosmetic surgery under Dr. Bourgeois’s care encompasses a broad array of procedures designed to rejuvenate and harmonize facial features. She performs rhinoplasty with a nuanced understanding of nasal airway function and aesthetic proportion, employing both open and closed approaches tailored to the individual’s anatomy. Her expertise extends to facelifts, where she combines traditional SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) techniques with minimally invasive thread lifts to lift sagging tissues while preserving facial expression. Additionally, she offers eyelid (blepharoplasty), brow lift, and facial fat grafting procedures, utilizing autologous fat harvested via gentle liposuction to restore volume loss in the midface and temples. Each facial surgery is guided by a strategic, three‑dimensional analysis that balances the patient’s unique skeletal framework with soft tissue dynamics, ensuring results that are both subtle and transformative.

In the domain of breast reconstruction, Dr. Bourgeois provides compassionate, state‑of‑the‑art solutions for patients recovering from mastectomy. She is proficient in autologous tissue reconstruction, including DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) and TRAM flaps, which preserve abdominal muscle function while delivering robust, natural‑looking breast mound reconstruction. Her mastery of microsurgical techniques enables her to perform delicate anastomoses with high success rates and low flap loss. For patients preferring implant‑based reconstruction, she utilizes a staged approach that incorporates tissue expanders, acellular dermal matrices, and strategic implant placement to achieve optimal aesthetic outcomes while minimizing complications. Throughout the reconstructive journey, Dr. Bourgeois collaborates closely with oncologic teams and radiation specialists to synchronize surgical timing and preserve oncologic safety.

Beyond aesthetic procedures, Dr. Bourgeois is a skilled reconstructive surgeon for skin cancer defects and complex facial trauma. She employs Mohs micrographic surgery in conjunction with reconstructive expertise to excise malignancies while preserving maximal healthy tissue. For extensive facial defects, she utilizes a combination of local flaps, regional tissue transfer, and, when necessary, free‑tissue transfer to restore both form and function. Her approach to skin cancer reconstruction is guided by a commitment to achieving oncologic clearance, optimal wound healing, and an aesthetic result that respects the patient’s facial identity. In cases of facial reconstruction following trauma or congenital anomalies, Dr. Bourgeois integrates multidisciplinary input from maxillofacial surgeons, otolaryngologists, and speech therapists, ensuring that functional recovery—such as speech, mastication, and ocular protection—is achieved alongside cosmetic restoration.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Dr. Bourgeois’s dedication to patient safety is underscored by her active membership in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), where she participates in continuous education programs that disseminate the latest safety protocols and evidence‑based practices. As an ABPS‑certified surgeon, she adheres to the rigorous standards set forth by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, maintaining board certification through regular recertification exams and peer‑reviewed case studies. Her affiliation with the Louisiana Society of Plastic Surgeons further reinforces her commitment to regional best practices, allowing her to stay abreast of state‑specific regulations, emerging health trends, and collaborative safety initiatives.

Within her Baton Rouge practice, Dr. Bourgeois has instituted a comprehensive safety infrastructure that addresses every phase of patient care. Preoperatively, she conducts thorough risk assessments that include detailed medical histories, laboratory evaluations, and individualized anesthesia consultations. She employs standardized surgical safety checklists modeled after the World Health Organization’s guidelines, ensuring that critical steps—such as site verification, instrument counts, and prophylactic antibiotic administration—are meticulously documented. Intraoperatively, she utilizes state‑of‑the‑art monitoring equipment, including continuous capnography, pulse oximetry, and temperature regulation devices, to maintain optimal physiological parameters throughout the procedure.

Postoperative vigilance is a hallmark of Dr. Bourgeois’s practice, where she has established a dedicated recovery unit staffed by experienced nurses trained in wound management, pain control, and early detection of complications. She implements multimodal analgesia protocols that minimize opioid reliance while providing effective pain relief, thereby reducing the risk of postoperative nausea, constipation, and respiratory depression. Her postoperative follow‑up schedule includes scheduled virtual and in‑person visits, allowing for prompt identification and management of issues such as seroma formation, infection, or delayed wound healing. This proactive approach has contributed to her recognition as the “Best of Baton Rouge Cosmetic Surgeon 2026,” an accolade that reflects not only her aesthetic expertise but also her unwavering dedication to patient safety and satisfaction.
