Dr. Jedediah Kaufman - Plastic Surgeon in Edmonds, WA

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Jedediah Kaufman earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the prestigious Harvard Medical School, where he graduated with honors and was recognized for his exceptional research contributions to regenerative tissue engineering. During his time at Harvard, he authored several peer‑reviewed articles exploring the molecular pathways of wound healing, which laid a scientific foundation for his later innovations in scar revision and post‑mastectomy reconstruction. His academic excellence was complemented by a series of clinical rotations that exposed him to a broad spectrum of surgical specialties, allowing him to appreciate the interdisciplinary nature of patient care and to develop a nuanced understanding of anatomy, physiology, and surgical oncology.

Following medical school, Dr. Kaufman pursued a rigorous residency in General Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), a program renowned for its emphasis on high‑volume operative experience and research integration. Over the course of his five‑year residency, he performed more than 1,200 major surgeries, ranging from complex abdominal procedures to emergent trauma cases, honing his dexterity, decision‑making under pressure, and mastery of peri‑operative management. His mentors at UCSF lauded his ability to maintain composure in the most demanding operative environments, a quality that would later become a hallmark of his aesthetic practice.

To specialize further, Dr. Kaufman completed a dedicated fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, one of the nation’s most competitive programs. The fellowship provided him with intensive exposure to microsurgical techniques, craniofacial reconstruction, and advanced aesthetic procedures. During this period, he contributed to groundbreaking research on autologous fat grafting, publishing findings that demonstrated improved graft survival rates through novel processing methods. His fellowship culminated in a capstone project that integrated three‑dimensional imaging, tissue engineering, and patient‑reported outcome measures, positioning him at the forefront of evidence‑based aesthetic surgery. The combination of his elite academic training, high‑volume operative experience, and research acumen equips Dr. Kaufman with a rare blend of scientific insight and artistic precision.

Surgical Expertise

Among Dr. Kaufman’s most celebrated procedures is breast augmentation, a cornerstone of his aesthetic repertoire that showcases his ability to balance structural integrity with aesthetic nuance. Leveraging his deep understanding of breast anatomy, he employs a personalized implant selection process that considers factors such as chest wall dimensions, tissue thickness, and patient lifestyle. Whether utilizing silicone gel, saline, or the latest cohesive gel implants, Dr. Kaufman meticulously plans incision placement—whether inframammary, periareolar, or transaxillary—to minimize scarring and optimize implant positioning. His mastery of the dual‑plane technique, combined with a keen eye for symmetry, results in natural‑looking outcomes that harmonize with the patient’s overall body proportions. Moreover, his commitment to safety is evident in his rigorous pre‑operative screening for contraindications, such as capsular contracture risk or prior radiation therapy, ensuring that each patient receives a tailored solution that maximizes both aesthetic satisfaction and long‑term health.

In the realm of body contouring, Dr. Kaufman’s liposuction expertise is distinguished by his adoption of advanced technologies such as power‑assisted liposuction (PAL) and ultrasound‑assisted liposuction (UAL). These modalities enable him to target stubborn adipose deposits with precision while preserving surrounding connective tissue, resulting in smoother, more uniform contours. He frequently combines liposuction with adjunctive procedures—such as cellulite reduction, skin tightening, and vascular laser therapy—to deliver comprehensive body sculpting outcomes. His meticulous technique, which includes strategic cannula placement and careful suction control, reduces postoperative edema and accelerates recovery, allowing patients to resume daily activities within days rather than weeks. Dr. Kaufman’s commitment to evidence‑based practice is reflected in his ongoing participation in clinical trials that evaluate the efficacy of novel lipolytic agents, further enhancing his ability to offer cutting‑edge solutions to his patients.

Perhaps the most transformative operation in Dr. Kaufman’s portfolio is the abdominoplasty, commonly known as the “tummy tuck.” Recognizing that abdominal contouring extends beyond mere fat removal, he integrates a holistic approach that addresses excess skin, weakened musculature, and diastasis recti—a separation of the rectus abdominis muscles often seen after pregnancy or significant weight fluctuations. Using refined techniques such as the progressive tension suture method, Dr. Kaufman minimizes the need for drainage tubes and reduces the incidence of seroma formation, a common postoperative complication. His meticulous attention to fascial plication, combined with strategic liposuction of the flank and hips, creates a seamless transition from the waist to the hips, yielding a natural, athletic silhouette. Post‑operative protocols under his care include customized compression garments, targeted physiotherapy, and nutritional counseling, all designed to preserve the surgical results and promote optimal healing.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Dr. Kaufman’s dedication to patient safety is underscored by his active affiliation with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the premier organization that sets the gold standard for ethical practice, education, and research in plastic surgery. As a board‑certified member, he adheres to ASPS’s rigorous guidelines for patient consent, operative protocols, and postoperative monitoring. He regularly participates in ASPS‑sponsored workshops and webinars, staying abreast of the latest safety initiatives, such as the implementation of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathways and the utilization of intra‑operative nerve monitoring. His practice incorporates ASPS’s safety checklist, a systematic tool that verifies patient identity, surgical site, and implant specifications before every procedure, thereby eliminating preventable errors and reinforcing a culture of vigilance.

Beyond his ASPS membership, Dr. Kaufman’s commitment to excellence has been recognized through the prestigious Patient Choice Award, an accolade granted to physicians who consistently achieve high patient satisfaction scores and demonstrate exemplary clinical outcomes. This award reflects his unwavering focus on transparent communication, compassionate care, and meticulous follow‑up. Patients frequently commend his thorough pre‑operative counseling, which includes detailed risk‑benefit discussions, realistic expectation setting, and personalized recovery plans. Moreover, his practice employs a multidisciplinary safety team composed of anesthesiologists, nursing specialists, and certified surgical assistants, each trained in the latest patient safety protocols, ensuring that every aspect of the surgical experience is optimized for minimal risk and maximal comfort.

In addition to institutional affiliations, Dr. Kaufman has pioneered several internal safety initiatives within his Edmonds clinic. He introduced a digital patient portal that allows real‑time monitoring of postoperative symptoms, enabling early detection of complications such as infection or hematoma. The portal also facilitates direct communication with his surgical team, reducing the need for emergency department visits and fostering a supportive recovery environment. Furthermore, his office employs a robust audit system that tracks surgical outcomes, infection rates, and readmission statistics, providing continuous feedback that drives quality improvement. By embracing a data‑driven approach to safety, Dr. Kaufman not only safeguards his patients but also contributes valuable insights to the broader plastic surgery community through peer‑reviewed publications.
