Dr. James M. Ridgway earned his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine, an institution renowned for its rigorous curriculum and emphasis on community health. During his time at UW, he distinguished himself academically, securing research grants focused on wound healing and scar modulation, topics that would later become central to his surgical practice. These accolades reflected not only his intellectual aptitude but also his commitment to the compassionate care of patients, a value that would become a hallmark of his professional identity.

Following medical school, Dr. Ridgway completed a highly competitive residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Washington, where he refined his technical skills under the mentorship of some of the nation’s most respected reconstructive surgeons. The residency program emphasized a broad spectrum of procedures, ranging from complex microsurgical reconstructions of traumatic injuries to aesthetic refinements of facial and body contours. Throughout his residency, Ridgway demonstrated an exceptional ability to navigate the delicate balance between functional restoration and aesthetic enhancement, a dual focus that earned him the Resident’s Choice Award for Surgical Excellence in his final year. His case logs during this period included over 300 major reconstructive surgeries and 150 aesthetic procedures, underscoring a depth of experience that is rare among surgeons at his stage of training.

To further specialize in facial aesthetics, Dr. Ridgway pursued a prestigious Beckman Post‑Doctoral Fellowship in Facial Plastic Surgery, a program designed to cultivate leaders in the field through intensive hands‑on training and scholarly research. Under the guidance of world‑renowned facial plastic surgeons, he mastered advanced techniques in rhinoplasty, facial rejuvenation, and craniofacial reconstruction, while also contributing to peer‑reviewed publications that explored innovative approaches to minimizing postoperative swelling and enhancing long‑term outcomes. This fellowship solidified his reputation as an expert in facial plastic surgery and laid the groundwork for his later focus on integrating cutting‑edge technologies such as 3‑D imaging and computer‑assisted design into his operative repertoire.

Dr. Ridgway’s surgical portfolio encompasses a comprehensive range of facial plastic procedures, each performed with a meticulous attention to detail that reflects his belief in the surgeon as both a craftsman and a healer. His approach to nasal surgery incorporates the latest advancements in cartilage grafting and structural reinforcement, ensuring durability and natural appearance. Patients consistently commend his ability to achieve subtle, yet transformative changes that enhance facial balance without compromising the individuality of their features.

Aesthetic surgery is another cornerstone of Dr. Ridgway’s practice, where he excels in procedures such as facelifts, breast augmentation, and body contouring. His facelift technique combines traditional SMAS manipulation with modern tension‑free suturing methods, reducing operative time and postoperative discomfort while delivering lasting rejuvenation. In breast augmentation, he emphasizes personalized implant selection, precise pocket creation, and meticulous soft‑tissue handling to achieve symmetrical, natural‑looking results. His expertise in body contouring extends to abdominoplasty, liposuction, and thigh lifts, where he utilizes advanced liposuction technologies—such as ultrasound‑assisted and laser‑assisted devices—to sculpt the body with minimal trauma and expedited recovery. Each of these procedures is executed within a framework of safety protocols and evidence‑based practices that prioritize patient well‑being above all.

Beyond aesthetic enhancements, Dr. Ridgway is a seasoned reconstructive surgeon, adept at handling complex injuries and congenital anomalies that demand both functional restoration and aesthetic consideration. His reconstructive work includes microsurgical free‑flap transfers for head and neck cancer patients, intricate cleft lip and palate repairs, and scar revision procedures that incorporate emerging techniques like subcision and fractional laser resurfacing. By integrating his aesthetic sensibility into reconstructive surgery, he achieves outcomes that restore not only form and function but also confidence, a testament to his holistic approach. His commitment to continuous improvement is evident in his participation in multidisciplinary tumor boards, where he collaborates with oncologists, radiologists, and rehabilitation specialists to devise comprehensive treatment plans that align with the highest standards of patient care.
