Dr. Humayun Waheed - Plastic Surgeon in Rockville, NY

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Waheed earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Dow University of Health Sciences, an institution renowned for its rigorous curriculum and emphasis on clinical excellence. During his tenure at Dow, he distinguished himself not only through academic achievement but also through a series of research projects that explored wound healing dynamics and tissue engineering, laying a scientific foundation that would later inform his reconstructive endeavors. His clinical rotations were marked by a relentless pursuit of mastery across a spectrum of specialties, from internal medicine to emergency surgery, cultivating a holistic understanding of patient physiology that would become a hallmark of his later practice.

Following medical school, Dr. Waheed pursued a residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center, a program celebrated for its demanding surgical volume and commitment to innovative techniques. Over the course of his residency, he performed hundreds of procedures ranging from microsurgical free‑flap reconstructions to intricate facial aesthetic surgeries, honing a dexterity that blended precision with an artist’s eye for proportion. He also engaged in scholarly activity, publishing articles on postoperative scar management and presenting at national conferences, thereby contributing to the evolving body of plastic surgical knowledge. The rigorous training environment at UT Health Science Center forged his reputation as a surgeon who could navigate the most complex operative challenges with composure and confidence.

Seeking to refine his aesthetic sensibilities, Dr. Waheed completed a fellowship in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery through the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. This fellowship offered immersive exposure to advanced cosmetic procedures, including facial rejuvenation, body contouring, and breast augmentation, under the mentorship of internationally recognized aesthetic surgeons. During this period, he mastered the art of patient‑centered design, learning to translate individual facial geometry and body contours into harmonious, natural‑looking results. The fellowship also emphasized the importance of evidence‑based practice, encouraging Dr. Waheed to integrate the latest outcomes data into his surgical decision‑making, thereby ensuring that every aesthetic intervention was grounded in both science and artistry.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Waheed’s surgical expertise spans the full spectrum of plastic, cosmetic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery, allowing him to address a diverse array of patient needs with confidence and finesse. In the realm of plastic surgery, he has become a leading authority on complex reconstruction following oncologic resections, trauma, and congenital anomalies. His mastery of microsurgical techniques enables the successful transfer of tissue flaps from distant donor sites to restore form and function, often achieving outcomes that rival those of the original anatomy. Patients benefit from his meticulous pre‑operative planning, which incorporates three‑dimensional imaging and virtual simulations to anticipate potential challenges and optimize surgical pathways.

Within cosmetic surgery, Dr. Waheed is renowned for delivering results that are both subtle and transformative, emphasizing natural enhancement over overt alteration. His repertoire includes facial procedures such as rhinoplasty, facelifts, and blepharoplasty, each performed with an emphasis on preserving the patient’s unique facial identity while addressing age‑related changes. He also excels in body contouring, offering liposuction, abdominoplasty, and thigh lifts that sculpt the silhouette with precision. By combining refined surgical technique with a deep understanding of aesthetic principles, Dr. Waheed consistently achieves outcomes that align with his patients’ aspirations for confidence and self‑esteem.

In reconstructive surgery, Dr. Waheed’s work often intersects with his aesthetic expertise, particularly in the restoration of breast form after mastectomy or trauma. He employs a range of techniques—from tissue‑expander‑based reconstruction to autologous flap procedures—to recreate a breast that is both functionally robust and aesthetically pleasing. His commitment to patient‑centered care extends to postoperative support, where he provides comprehensive guidance on scar management, rehabilitation, and long‑term surveillance. This holistic approach ensures that patients not only regain physical integrity but also experience an improved quality of life, underscoring Dr. Waheed’s dedication to the full continuum of surgical care.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Dr. Waheed’s unwavering commitment to patient safety is reflected in his active involvement with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), where he regularly contributes to safety protocols, peer‑reviewed guidelines, and continuing education initiatives. As a member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), he adheres to stringent board‑certified standards that mandate rigorous assessment of surgical competence, ethical practice, and ongoing professional development. His participation in the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) further underscores his dedication to global best practices, as he collaborates with surgeons worldwide to refine safety metrics, complication reporting, and patient education strategies.

Recognition of Dr. Waheed’s exemplary safety record is evident in the numerous accolades he has received throughout his career. In 2022, he was honored as Physician of the Year by the Long Island Plastic Surgery Society, a testament to his leadership in fostering a culture of transparency, meticulous risk assessment, and patient‑focused communication. Two years earlier, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery bestowed upon him the Excellence in Cosmetic Surgery Award, acknowledging his ability to deliver high‑quality aesthetic outcomes while maintaining an uncompromising standard of safety. His contributions to the field were further celebrated with the Lifetime Achievement Award from ISAPS in 2018, recognizing his sustained impact on advancing safe surgical practices on an international scale.

Beyond awards, Dr. Waheed’s day‑to‑day practice is anchored in a systematic safety framework that integrates pre‑operative screening, intra‑operative monitoring, and postoperative follow‑up. He employs evidence‑based protocols such as the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, utilizes advanced anesthesia techniques to minimize peri‑operative risk, and implements rigorous infection control measures throughout his operating suites. Moreover, he leverages cutting‑edge technology—such as real‑time imaging and laser‑assisted tissue coagulation—to enhance precision and reduce intra‑operative blood loss. This comprehensive approach ensures that each patient’s journey, from consultation to recovery, is guided by the highest standards of medical safety and ethical responsibility.
