Dr. Helen Fincher - Plastic Surgeon in Los Angeles, CA

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Helen Fincher earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine in Memphis, where she distinguished herself academically by graduating in the top 10 percent of her class and receiving the prestigious Dean’s Award for Clinical Excellence. During her pre‑clinical years, she demonstrated an early fascination with the integumentary system, completing a series of research projects on wound healing kinetics and the molecular pathways of scar formation. Her senior thesis, which explored the role of fibroblast subpopulations in hypertrophic scar development, was published in a peer‑reviewed dermatologic journal and laid the groundwork for her later clinical focus on minimizing postoperative scarring in cosmetic procedures.

Following medical school, Dr. Fincher pursued a dermatology residency at Stanford University, an institution renowned for its rigorous curriculum and cutting‑edge research environment. At Stanford, she rotated through the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, where she was exposed to complex facial reconstruction, microsurgical techniques, and aesthetic innovations. Her residency training was marked by a series of high‑stakes clinical experiences, including the management of extensive basal cell carcinomas requiring multi‑disciplinary reconstruction, and the performance of over 200 Mohs micrographic surgeries under direct supervision. Throughout this period, she earned the Stanford Resident Scholar Award for her contributions to a multicenter study on laser‑induced collagen remodeling, highlighting her ability to bridge dermatologic science with surgical application.

To further refine her surgical acumen, Dr. Fincher completed a fellowship in cosmetic surgery that integrated dermatologic expertise with advanced plastic surgical techniques. This fellowship, conducted at a premier Los Angeles institute, provided intensive hands‑on training in facial rejuvenation, body contouring, and minimally invasive aesthetic interventions. She mastered the use of high‑resolution ultrasonic imaging for precise filler placement, honed her skill in autologous fat grafting, and became proficient in the latest laser resurfacing platforms. Her dedication to mastering both the art and science of aesthetic surgery culminated in a capstone project that evaluated long‑term patient satisfaction after combined dermal filler and laser protocols, earning her the Fellowship Excellence Award and solidifying her reputation as a leader at the intersection of dermatology and plastic surgery.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Fincher’s surgical repertoire is anchored in a comprehensive foundation of general dermatology, which equips her with a profound understanding of skin pathology, photodamage, and the subtleties of cutaneous anatomy. Her expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide spectrum of dermatologic conditions—including pigmentary disorders, inflammatory dermatoses, and skin cancers—provides a unique advantage when planning aesthetic interventions, as she can anticipate and mitigate potential complications arising from underlying skin health. This depth of knowledge enables her to seamlessly integrate medical dermatology with cosmetic procedures, ensuring that each patient’s baseline skin condition is optimized before any surgical manipulation takes place.

In the realm of cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Fincher is celebrated for her mastery of non‑surgical rejuvenation techniques that blend safety with transformative results. She employs a sophisticated arsenal of injectable therapies, such as hyaluronic acid fillers, neuromodulators, and biostimulatory agents, delivering precise volumetric enhancements that respect the natural contours of the face. Her proficiency with advanced laser technologies—including fractional CO₂, Er:YAG, and picosecond systems—allows her to address concerns ranging from fine rhytides and sun‑induced dyschromia to textural irregularities with minimal downtime. Moreover, she has pioneered combination protocols that synergize laser resurfacing with platelet‑rich plasma (PRP) therapy, accelerating collagen synthesis and delivering long‑lasting improvements in skin tone and elasticity.

Building upon her dermatologic foundation, Dr. Fincher’s plastic surgical skill set encompasses both aesthetic and reconstructive procedures that demand meticulous technique and artistic sensibility. She performs facial rejuvenation surgeries such as rhytidectomy, brow lift, and mid‑face advancement with a focus on preserving facial harmony and minimizing visible scarring. In body contouring, she offers liposuction, abdominoplasty, and thigh lifts, employing a patient‑centered approach that prioritizes functional outcomes alongside aesthetic goals. Her reconstructive work includes the repair of complex facial defects following oncologic resections, where she utilizes local flaps, tissue expansion, and microvascular free tissue transfer to restore both form and function. Dr. Fincher’s commitment to staying at the forefront of surgical innovation is reflected in her regular attendance at international conferences, where she contributes to the evolving dialogue on minimally invasive techniques, enhanced recovery pathways, and the integration of regenerative medicine into aesthetic surgery.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Helen Fincher’s dedication to patient safety is reflected in her active participation in multiple professional societies that set the gold standard for dermatologic and surgical practice. As a member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), she adheres to the Academy’s stringent guidelines on procedural sterility, infection control, and evidence‑based treatment protocols. Her involvement with the California Dermatology Association (CDA) further underscores her commitment to state‑level advocacy for patient protection, where she regularly contributes to policy discussions on consent standards, postoperative monitoring, and the responsible use of emerging technologies. Dr. Fincher also holds a leadership position within the Society for Dermatologic Surgery (SDS), where she mentors peers on best practices for complication avoidance and continuous quality improvement.
