Read about this doctor's medical background and experience.
Dr. Gregory H. Scimeca approaches the art and science of plastic surgery with a philosophy that blends meticulous anatomical knowledge, a deep respect for individual patient narratives, and an unwavering commitment to aesthetic harmony. From the earliest days of his medical career, he recognized that surgical transformation is not merely a technical procedure but a profound partnership between surgeon and patient, wherein the goals, expectations, and personal histories of each individual shape the final outcome. This patient‑centered ethos drives every consultation, as Dr. Scimeca invests significant time in listening, asking probing questions, and visualizing the desired result within the context of each patient’s unique physiognomy and lifestyle. He believes that the most successful aesthetic enhancements arise when the surgeon respects the natural contours of the body, subtly enhancing rather than overwriting, thereby preserving the intrinsic beauty that defines each person.
Beyond the clinical encounter, Dr. Scimeca’s approach is informed by an artistic sensibility cultivated through years of study in fine arts and sculpture, disciplines that sharpen his eye for proportion, balance, and texture. He translates these principles into the operating room, employing an exacting technique that mirrors the precision of a sculptor carving marble. This artistic foundation informs his selection of incision sites, suture patterns, and implant positioning, ensuring that each procedure yields a result that is both functionally robust and aesthetically seamless. He frequently references the classical canons of beauty—symmetry, proportion, and the golden ratio—using them as invisible guides that steer his surgical decisions toward outcomes that feel both natural and elevated.
Dr. Scimeca also places a premium on continuous learning and interdisciplinary collaboration, recognizing that the field of plastic surgery evolves rapidly with advances in technology, biomaterials, and minimally invasive techniques. He actively participates in peer‑reviewed conferences, contributes to surgical textbooks, and maintains a dialogue with colleagues in dermatology, oncology, and reconstructive medicine. This collaborative mindset not only enriches his own practice but also ensures that his patients benefit from the most current, evidence‑based interventions. By integrating cutting‑edge innovations with his foundational philosophy, Dr. Scimeca creates a dynamic, forward‑thinking practice that consistently delivers results that exceed expectations while honoring the individuality of each patient.
Dr. Gregory H. Scimeca earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, an institution renowned for its rigorous curriculum and emphasis on scholarly inquiry. During his medical school years, he distinguished himself academically, graduating with honors and receiving multiple awards for research excellence in the fields of regenerative medicine and aesthetic surgery. His thesis, which explored the integration of autologous fat grafting with novel collagen matrix scaffolds, was published in a leading peer‑reviewed journal and set the stage for his lifelong interest in combining scientific rigor with artistic outcomes. Throughout his clinical rotations, Dr. Scimeca demonstrated an early affinity for operative disciplines, consistently seeking mentorship from senior surgeons and volunteering for additional operative experiences beyond the standard curriculum.
Following medical school, Dr. Scimeca pursued a residency in Plastic Surgery at the prestigious New York University (NYU) Langone Health, where he was exposed to a broad spectrum of reconstructive and aesthetic procedures. The residency program, known for its demanding operative volume and comprehensive training in microsurgery, provided Dr. Scimeca with the opportunity to master complex flap techniques, craniofacial reconstruction, and hand surgery, while also honing his skills in aesthetic refinements such as breast augmentation, facial rejuvenation, and body contouring. He completed his residency with a record of exceptional performance, earning the Resident of the Year award for his dedication to patient care, scholarly activity, and leadership within the department.
To further refine his expertise, Dr. Scimeca completed a fellowship in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a program that emphasizes advanced minimally invasive technologies, three‑dimensional imaging, and the latest innovations in implant design. During this fellowship, he collaborated with leading investigators on clinical trials evaluating the safety and efficacy of next‑generation silicone breast implants, and he contributed to the development of a novel liposuction technique that reduces postoperative bruising and accelerates recovery. This intensive period of subspecialty training cemented his reputation as a surgeon who blends academic inquiry with clinical excellence, positioning him to deliver state‑of‑the‑art aesthetic solutions to patients worldwide.
In the realm of breast augmentation, Dr. Gregory H. Scimeca is widely recognized for his nuanced approach to implant selection, placement, and postoperative management. He meticulously evaluates each patient’s thoracic anatomy, skin quality, and aesthetic goals, utilizing three‑dimensional imaging software to simulate potential outcomes and facilitate informed decision‑making. Dr. Scimeca is proficient in both subglandular and submuscular techniques, and he routinely employs the dual‑plane approach when appropriate, balancing the benefits of natural tissue coverage with optimal implant positioning. His expertise extends to the use of anatomically shaped, high‑profile silicone implants, which he selects based on a thorough assessment of breast dimensions and patient preferences. Moreover, he incorporates advanced adjuncts such as autologous fat grafting to enhance contour irregularities and achieve a harmonious transition between the breast and the surrounding chest wall, thereby delivering results that are both durable and aesthetically pleasing.
Liposuction, a cornerstone of body contouring, is another area where Dr. Scimeca’s skill set shines. He utilizes a combination of tumescent infiltration, power‑assist devices, and ultrasound‑enhanced liposuction to achieve precise adipose removal while preserving surrounding structures. His technique emphasizes meticulous cannula placement, strategic vector planning, and careful preservation of the superficial fascial network, which together minimize postoperative edema and promote a smoother, more natural skin retraction. Dr. Scimeca is also adept at performing high‑definition liposuction, a specialized approach that sculpts the underlying musculature to accentuate definition in areas such as the abdomen, flanks, and back. By integrating these advanced methodologies, he achieves a refined aesthetic outcome that enhances the patient’s silhouette without compromising safety or recovery.
When it comes to abdominoplasty, commonly known as the “tummy tuck,” Dr. Scimeca combines traditional surgical principles with modern refinements to address excess skin, weakened musculature, and localized adiposity. He performs both full‑ and mini‑abdominoplasties, tailoring the extent of tissue excision and muscle repair to the individual’s anatomical needs and aesthetic aspirations. His approach often incorporates progressive tension sutures, which distribute closure forces evenly across the incision line, thereby decreasing tension, reducing the risk of postoperative dehiscence, and facilitating a flatter scar. Additionally, Dr. Scimeca frequently integrates concurrent liposuction and strategic fat grafting to optimize contour and address peripheral contour irregularities. His comprehensive, patient‑specific strategy ensures that each abdominal rejuvenation not only restores a tightened waistline but also yields a harmonious balance with the surrounding torso, delivering results that are both functional and visually compelling.
Dr. Gregory H. Scimeca’s dedication to patient safety is reflected in his active membership in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), an organization that sets the highest standards for ethical practice, continuing education, and patient advocacy. As a board‑certified plastic surgeon, he adheres to stringent ASPS guidelines that mandate rigorous preoperative assessment, evidence‑based operative techniques, and diligent postoperative monitoring. Dr. Scimeca regularly participates in ASPS‑sponsored workshops and webinars, ensuring that his knowledge of emerging safety protocols, infection control measures, and risk mitigation strategies remains current. He also contributes to ASPS task forces focused on enhancing patient education, advocating for transparent disclosure of potential complications, and developing consensus statements that shape the future of safe aesthetic practice.
