Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Jablonka earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1995, an institution renowned for its rigorous curriculum and emphasis on research excellence. During his tenure at UVA, he distinguished himself not only through academic achievement but also through early involvement in surgical research, contributing to several peer‑reviewed publications that explored the biomechanics of wound healing and the early applications of tissue‑engineered scaffolds. The comprehensive training he received at UVA laid a solid foundation in internal medicine, anatomy, and the basic sciences, fostering a disciplined analytical mindset that would later become a hallmark of his surgical practice. His exposure to a diverse patient population and a wide array of clinical scenarios cultivated a nuanced appreciation for the interplay between systemic health and localized surgical outcomes.

Following medical school, Dr. Jablonka pursued a demanding Plastic Surgery Residency at the University of Maryland, completing the program in the year 2000. This residency is distinguished by its high case volume, diverse reconstructive and aesthetic caseload, and a culture of mentorship that emphasizes both technical proficiency and compassionate patient care. Throughout his residency, Dr. Jablonka mastered a broad spectrum of procedures—from complex craniofacial reconstructions to intricate aesthetic refinements—while also honing his decision‑making abilities under pressure. He was actively involved in the residency’s research initiatives, focusing on microsurgical techniques for free‑flap reconstruction, which later informed his fellowship pursuits. The rigorous operative experience, combined with a deep immersion in multidisciplinary collaboration, imbued him with the confidence and competence required to tackle the most challenging reconstructive dilemmas.

To further refine his microsurgical expertise, Dr. Jablonka completed a prestigious Microsurgery Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in 2002. This fellowship placed him at the epicenter of innovative microvascular surgery, where he worked alongside world‑leading surgeons who were pioneering advances in free‑tissue transfer, lymphatic reconstruction, and peripheral nerve repair. During this period, he contributed to groundbreaking studies that examined the long‑term viability of perforator flaps and explored novel anastomotic techniques that reduced operative time while improving flap survival rates. The fellowship not only deepened his technical mastery of microsurgical instruments and protocols but also reinforced his commitment to meticulous pre‑operative planning and postoperative monitoring. This elite training experience solidified his reputation as a surgeon who can seamlessly integrate complex reconstructive strategies with aesthetic sensibilities, a duality that has become a defining attribute of his practice in Chesapeake, VA.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Jablonka’s surgical repertoire spans the full continuum of plastic surgery, encompassing both reconstructive and aesthetic disciplines with a level of precision that reflects his extensive training. In the realm of reconstructive surgery, he has become a sought‑after authority for patients requiring restoration after trauma, oncologic resections, or congenital anomalies. His approach to reconstruction is characterized by a meticulous analysis of defect geometry, vascular considerations, and the functional demands of the affected region, enabling him to devise personalized surgical plans that restore form and function in a single operative session whenever possible. He routinely employs advanced technologies such as intra‑operative indocyanine green angiography to assess tissue perfusion in real time, thereby minimizing the risk of postoperative complications and ensuring optimal healing.

Breast reconstruction represents a cornerstone of Dr. Jablonka’s practice, where his expertise in both implant‑based and autologous techniques has earned him national recognition. He collaborates closely with multidisciplinary oncology teams to provide seamless, patient‑centric care that begins at the time of cancer diagnosis and extends through long‑term survivorship. Whether performing a DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) flap reconstruction that utilizes the patient’s own abdominal tissue for a natural‑looking result, or executing a tissue‑expander‑to‑implant exchange that offers a rapid aesthetic solution, Dr. Jablonka meticulously balances oncologic safety with aesthetic excellence. His dedication to preserving abdominal wall integrity, minimizing donor‑site morbidity, and achieving symmetry has resulted in consistently high patient satisfaction scores and a robust portfolio of peer‑reviewed outcomes data that underscores his leadership in breast reconstruction.

Beyond reconstruction, Dr. Jablonka is renowned for his proficiency in microsurgery and cosmetic surgery, offering a broad array of aesthetic procedures that cater to the evolving desires of a discerning clientele. His microsurgical skill set enables him to perform delicate free‑flap transfers, lymphedema surgeries, and intricate facial revascularizations with a record of exceptional flap survival and low complication rates. In the aesthetic arena, he provides comprehensive facial rejuvenation—including facelifts, brow lifts, and rhinoplasty—body contouring procedures such as liposuction and abdominoplasty, and non‑invasive treatments that leverage the latest laser and radiofrequency technologies. Each aesthetic intervention is grounded in a philosophy that prioritizes natural results, long‑term durability, and the preservation of the patient’s unique facial harmony, thereby reinforcing his reputation as a surgeon who delivers both beauty and balance.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Dr. Jablonka’s unwavering commitment to patient safety is reflected in his active participation in several leading professional societies, each of which sets rigorous standards for clinical excellence and ethical practice. As a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), he adheres to a code of conduct that emphasizes evidence‑based practice, continuous education, and transparent patient communication. His involvement with the Virginia Plastic Surgery Society and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) further reinforces his dedication to upholding the highest surgical standards, as these organizations provide peer‑reviewed guidelines, safety audits, and quality improvement initiatives that he integrates into his daily practice. By staying at the forefront of evolving safety protocols, Dr. Jablonka ensures that his patients benefit from the most current, scientifically validated safeguards against infection, anesthesia complications, and postoperative morbidity.

Recognition of Dr. Jablonka’s excellence in safety and outcomes has been affirmed by multiple prestigious accolades. He was honored as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, a distinction reserved for physicians who demonstrate superior clinical expertise, peer respect, and a commitment to patient-centered care. In 2021, Virginia Beach Magazine named him the Best Plastic Surgeon, a testament to his reputation within the regional community and his ability to consistently deliver high‑quality results. Moreover, his receipt of the Excellence in Breast Reconstruction Award from the ASPS in 2020 highlights his innovative contributions to the field, particularly his refined techniques that reduce operative time, minimize donor‑site complications, and improve aesthetic outcomes for breast cancer survivors. These honors not only celebrate his technical skill but also underscore his relentless pursuit of safety and excellence in every facet of his practice.

Beyond external recognitions, Dr. Jablonka has instituted a comprehensive suite of internal safety measures that exemplify his proactive approach to risk mitigation. His surgical suite is equipped with state‑of‑the‑art sterilization technologies, including automated endoscope reprocessing units and ultraviolet disinfection systems that dramatically reduce microbial load. He employs a standardized pre‑operative checklist modeled after the World Health Organization’s Surgical Safety Checklist, ensuring that every team member verifies patient identity, surgical site, and critical equipment before incision. Post‑operatively, he utilizes evidence‑based protocols for pain management, thromboprophylaxis, and wound surveillance, complemented by a robust electronic health record system that tracks outcomes and flags any deviations from expected recovery trajectories.
