Dr. Ellen A Janetzke - Plastic Surgeon in Bloomfield Hills, MI

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Janetzke’s academic journey began at the University of Michigan Medical School, where she earned her MD with honors, distinguishing herself through a combination of scholarly excellence and clinical curiosity. During her medical school years, she pursued research projects that explored wound healing mechanisms and tissue regeneration, publishing findings that contributed to the broader understanding of scar formation. Her dedication to the scientific method earned her multiple academic awards and laid a solid foundation for her future specialization in plastic surgery.

Following medical school, Dr. Janetzke embarked on a demanding residency in Plastic Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital, a program renowned for its rigorous surgical curriculum and high volume of complex reconstructive cases. Over the course of her residency, she honed her operative skills across the full spectrum of plastic surgery, ranging from microsurgical free flap reconstruction to aesthetic facial procedures. The hands‑on experience she gained at Henry Ford Hospital cultivated an unwavering attention to detail, an ability to manage intricate anatomical challenges, and a profound respect for the delicate balance between form and function.

In addition to her core residency training, Dr. Janetzke pursued fellowships that deepened her expertise in specific subspecialties. She completed a fellowship in Breast Surgery, where she refined techniques in augmentation, reduction, and reconstruction, and another focused on Body Contouring, mastering advanced liposuction and abdominoplasty methods. These supplemental training periods were marked by mentorship under national leaders in the field, collaborative research initiatives, and the development of novel protocols that have since been incorporated into her own practice in Bloomfield Hills.

Surgical Expertise

Breast augmentation stands as one of Dr. Janetzke’s signature procedures, where she combines a nuanced understanding of implant selection, placement, and tissue dynamics to achieve results that are both aesthetically pleasing and durable. She employs a personalized approach, assessing each patient’s chest wall anatomy, skin quality, and aesthetic goals to determine the optimal implant type—silicone, saline, or cohesive gel—and placement strategy, whether subglandular, submuscular, or a hybrid approach. Her meticulous technique minimizes the risk of capsular contracture and ensures a natural silhouette that harmonizes with the patient’s overall body proportions.

Equally adept at breast reduction, Dr. Janetzke offers relief to patients suffering from macromastia, addressing both physical discomfort and psychological distress. Her surgical plan emphasizes preservation of nipple‑areolar complex sensation, strategic scar placement, and symmetric reshaping of the breast mound. By employing a combination of vertical and horizontal incision patterns tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy, she achieves a reduction in breast size that alleviates chronic pain while delivering a youthful, uplifted contour. Post‑operative care protocols, including scar management and physiotherapy guidance, further enhance the recovery experience.

In the realm of body contouring, Dr. Janetzke’s expertise spans liposuction, tummy tucks, thigh lifts, and arm lifts, each performed with a focus on creating smooth, natural lines that accentuate the patient’s silhouette. She utilizes advanced technologies such as power‑assisted liposuction, laser‑assisted lipolysis, and ultrasound‑enhanced fat removal to target stubborn adipose deposits while preserving vital structures. Her approach to abdominoplasty incorporates meticulous rectus sheath plication, careful preservation of perforating vessels, and strategic umbilical repositioning, resulting in a flat, toned abdomen with minimal complications.

Facial rejuvenation is another cornerstone of Dr. Janetzke’s practice, encompassing a comprehensive suite of procedures from facelift and neck lift to minimally invasive injectables. Her facelift technique emphasizes a deep plane approach that repositions underlying musculature and connective tissue, delivering lasting, natural‑looking results that resist the “tight‑rope” effect. Complementary procedures such as blepharoplasty, brow lifts, and lip augmentation are integrated into a cohesive treatment plan, ensuring harmonious facial harmony that respects the patient’s intrinsic features.

Reconstructive surgery showcases Dr. Janetzke’s commitment to restoring both form and function after trauma, oncologic resection, or congenital anomalies. She expertly performs microsurgical free‑flap transfers, using tissue from the abdomen, thigh, or back to reconstruct complex defects, and applies innovative techniques in scar revision and tissue expansion. Her reconstructive philosophy prioritizes functional outcomes—such as restoring sensation, mobility, and structural integrity—while simultaneously addressing aesthetic considerations, thereby delivering comprehensive solutions that empower patients to reclaim their confidence and daily life activities.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Dr. Janetzke’s unwavering dedication to patient safety is reflected in her active involvement with premier professional societies. As a board‑certified member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), she adheres to the organization’s stringent standards for ethical practice, continuing education, and peer review. Her affiliation with the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) further underscores her commitment to staying abreast of the latest aesthetic innovations while upholding rigorous safety protocols that protect patients from adverse outcomes.

These initiatives have helped standardize best practices across Michigan, fostering a culture of safety that benefits both patients and the broader surgical community.

In 2022, she received the Best Plastic Surgeon Award from the Michigan Aesthetic Society, a distinction granted to physicians who demonstrate superior surgical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and ethical conduct. The following year, she was named one of the Top 10 Plastic Surgeons in the Midwest by a respected industry panel, an honor that reflects her regional influence, innovative techniques, and dedication to continuous improvement. These accolades serve as testament to her relentless pursuit of surgical excellence and patient‑first ethos.

Pre‑operative assessments include comprehensive medical history reviews, advanced imaging, and individualized risk stratification. Intra‑operative safety is reinforced by employing standardized checklists, real‑time monitoring of vital signs, and utilizing the latest anesthesia protocols that minimize complications. Post‑operative protocols feature structured follow‑up schedules, telehealth check‑ins, and evidence‑based scar management regimens, ensuring that patients receive vigilant care throughout their recovery journey.

Education and transparency are also central to Dr. Janetzke’s safety philosophy. She conducts detailed pre‑operative counseling sessions wherein patients are informed of potential risks, realistic expectations, and alternative treatment options.
