Meet Edward S. Lee: Philosophy and Approach
Dr. Edward S. Lee stands at the intersection of artistry and science, embodying a philosophy that treats every patient as a unique canvas rather than a mere case file. From the earliest days of his medical career, he has championed a holistic view of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery—one that balances the anatomical precision of a surgeon with the compassionate intuition of a confidant. His guiding principle, “beauty is a reflection of health, confidence, and individuality,” permeates every consultation, pre‑operative planning session, and postoperative follow‑up. By fostering an environment where patients feel empowered to articulate their aspirations, Dr. Lee ensures that each surgical plan is co‑created, transparent, and rooted in realistic expectations.
In practice, Dr. Lee’s approach is anchored in meticulous, evidence‑based decision making coupled with a deep respect for the patient’s narrative. He leverages cutting‑edge imaging technology, three‑dimensional modeling, and a collaborative multidisciplinary team to map out surgical pathways that prioritize functional integrity as much as aesthetic outcome. Whether addressing complex craniofacial reconstruction after trauma or fine‑tuning facial contours for aesthetic enhancement, his methodology remains consistent: a thorough anatomical assessment, a clear articulation of risks and benefits, and a tailored operative strategy that aligns with the patient’s lifestyle and long‑term goals. This disciplined yet empathetic framework has earned him a reputation for delivering results that are both naturally beautiful and surgically sound.
Beyond the operating room, Dr. Lee is an avid advocate for patient education, believing that informed consent is the cornerstone of ethical practice. He routinely conducts workshops, webinars, and community outreach programs to demystify plastic surgery, dispel myths, and highlight the importance of realistic expectations. His commitment to transparency extends to postoperative care, where he implements structured follow‑up protocols, employs objective outcome measures, and encourages open dialogue about recovery experiences. This comprehensive philosophy not only cultivates trust but also fosters a culture of continuous improvement, positioning Dr. Lee as a thought leader who consistently raises the standard of care in plastic surgery.

Rigorous Medical Education and Training
Dr. Lee’s academic journey began at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with honors. Immersed in a rigorous curriculum that blended foundational sciences with early clinical exposure, he distinguished himself through a relentless pursuit of excellence, earning multiple research scholarships and presenting his findings at national conferences. His undergraduate research focused on wound healing mechanisms and scar modulation, laying the groundwork for his future specialization in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Throughout medical school, Dr. Lee demonstrated an unwavering dedication to both academic mastery and compassionate patient care, attributes that would later define his surgical practice.
Following medical school, Dr. Lee pursued a highly competitive residency in plastic surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, a program renowned for its comprehensive training and emphasis on innovative techniques. During his residency, he rotated through a broad spectrum of subspecialties—including microsurgery, hand surgery, craniofacial reconstruction, and aesthetic procedures—allowing him to develop a versatile skill set. He was selected for the prestigious Plastic Surgery Inservice Training (2018) where he excelled, earning the Best Poster Award for his work on novel dermal regeneration templates. This accolade highlighted his ability to translate bench research into clinical practice, reinforcing his reputation as a surgeon who bridges the gap between science and art.
Beyond the core residency, Dr. Lee sought out additional fellowship opportunities to refine his expertise in aesthetic surgery and complex reconstruction. He completed a fellowship in facial aesthetic surgery, where he honed his techniques in rhinoplasty, facelifts, and periorbital rejuvenation under the mentorship of world‑renowned surgeons. His commitment to lifelong learning is further evidenced by his active participation in continuing medical education courses, workshops on emerging technologies such as 3‑D printing for custom implants, and leadership roles in professional societies. Each educational milestone has contributed to a deep reservoir of knowledge that Dr. Lee draws upon to deliver meticulously planned, patient‑centered outcomes.
Surgical Expertise
Dr. Lee’s surgical repertoire spans the full continuum of plastic surgery, encompassing both reconstructive and aesthetic disciplines. In reconstructive surgery, he has performed hundreds of complex procedures ranging from microsurgical free‑flap transfers for head and neck cancer resections to intricate hand reconstructions following traumatic injury. His mastery of microsurgical techniques enables him to restore form and function with remarkable precision, often employing state‑of‑the‑art intraoperative imaging and perfusion monitoring to ensure optimal tissue viability. Patients consistently commend his attention to detail, noting the seamless integration of reconstructed tissue with surrounding anatomy, which often leads to superior functional outcomes and reduced donor‑site morbidity.
On the aesthetic front, Dr. Lee is celebrated for his nuanced approach to facial rejuvenation, body contouring, and breast surgery. His aesthetic philosophy embraces subtlety, aiming to enhance natural features while preserving individuality. Whether sculpting the jawline through a refined mandibular angle reduction, performing a customized breast augmentation with anatomically shaped implants, or delivering a harmonious liposuction that respects the body’s natural contours, Dr. Lee employs a meticulous pre‑operative planning process that incorporates three‑dimensional imaging, patient photographs, and virtual simulations. This detailed preparation not only sets realistic expectations but also guides intra‑operative decision making, resulting in outcomes that are both aesthetically pleasing and enduring.
Innovation remains a cornerstone of Dr. Lee’s practice. He routinely incorporates emerging technologies such as laser-assisted skin resurfacing, radiofrequency tightening, and regenerative medicine adjuncts—including platelet‑rich plasma and stem‑cell enriched fat grafting—to augment surgical results and accelerate recovery. His surgical suite is equipped with advanced operating microscopes, intra‑operative navigation systems, and regenerative tissue scaffolds, allowing him to execute procedures with unparalleled precision. By staying at the forefront of technological advancement, Dr. Lee ensures that his patients benefit from the latest, evidence‑based interventions, positioning his practice as a leading center for both transformative reconstructive work and refined aesthetic enhancements.

His affiliation with the New Jersey Society of Plastic Surgeons underscores his dedication to regional collaboration, where he regularly contributes to peer‑reviewed case discussions, safety audits, and continuing education initiatives. Dr. Lee’s commitment to safety is further illustrated by his receipt of the Resident Teaching Award from the New Jersey Society of Plastic Surgeons, recognizing his mentorship of emerging surgeons and his emphasis on cultivating a culture of safety among trainees.
In addition to his professional society memberships, Dr. Lee has been honored with the Rutgers NJMS (2020) Resident Teaching Award, reflecting his passion for education and his proactive approach to fostering a safety‑first mindset in the operating room. His dedication to knowledge dissemination extends to his award‑winning presentation at the Plastic Surgery Inservice Training (2018), where he shared insights on peri‑operative infection prevention protocols and the implementation of evidence‑based checklists. These contributions have not only advanced institutional safety standards but also influenced broader practice patterns across the state, reinforcing his role as a catalyst for systemic improvement.
Operationally, Dr. Lee employs a multilayered safety framework that integrates pre‑operative risk stratification, intra‑operative monitoring, and post‑operative surveillance. He utilizes standardized surgical safety checklists, real‑time vital sign analytics, and advanced wound‑closure technologies to minimize complications. Moreover, his practice adheres to stringent infection control measures, including prophylactic antibiotic stewardship, sterile field optimization, and postoperative wound care education. By combining rigorous procedural protocols with compassionate patient communication, Dr. Lee ensures that safety is not an abstract concept but a lived experience for every individual who walks through his doors.
