Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Edward I. Lee’s academic foundation was laid at Baylor College of Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with honors, distinguishing himself through a combination of scholarly research and clinical excellence. During his medical school tenure, he contributed to pioneering studies on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, earning recognition for his work on biodegradable scaffolds that support wound healing. His dedication to academic rigor was further demonstrated by his active involvement in the Student Research Committee, where he mentored peers and presented findings at national conferences, establishing a reputation for intellectual curiosity and collaborative spirit.

Following medical school, Dr. Lee embarked on an intensive six‑year Plastic Surgery Residency at Baylor College of Medicine, a program renowned for its comprehensive curriculum that blends reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Throughout this residency, he honed a diverse skill set, mastering microsurgical techniques, complex craniofacial reconstructions, and advanced aesthetic procedures. His commitment to excellence was reflected in his consistent top performance on board examinations and his selection for prestigious research grants, which funded his work on novel flap designs that improve vascularization and reduce postoperative complications. The residency’s rigorous case volume—exceeding 2,000 operative experiences—provided Dr. Lee with unparalleled exposure to a wide spectrum of surgical challenges, shaping him into a versatile and adaptable surgeon.

Dr. Lee’s pursuit of subspecialty expertise led him to two highly competitive fellowships that further refined his capabilities. First, he completed a Craniofacial/Pediatric Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, where he collaborated with leading craniofacial surgeons to address congenital anomalies such as craniosynostosis, cleft palate, and facial microsomia. His research during this fellowship focused on three‑dimensional planning and custom implant fabrication, resulting in a series of publications that advanced the field’s understanding of patient‑specific reconstructive solutions. Subsequently, he undertook a Pediatric Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital, an institution celebrated for its multidisciplinary approach to complex pediatric cases. Here, Dr. Lee managed a high‑acuity caseload that included vascular malformations, traumatic injuries, and rare genetic disorders, cementing his reputation as a surgeon who can navigate the delicate balance between functional restoration and aesthetic refinement in the youngest patients.

Surgical Expertise

In the realm of aesthetic plastic surgery, Dr. Lee has earned a reputation for delivering results that are both subtle and transformative, a testament to his mastery of facial rejuvenation, body contouring, and breast surgery. His aesthetic repertoire includes rhinoplasty, facelifts, blepharoplasty, and minimally invasive procedures such as Botox and dermal fillers, all performed with an emphasis on preserving natural facial dynamics. Dr. Lee’s approach to body contouring—encompassing liposuction, abdominoplasty, and thigh lifts—integrates advanced technologies like ultrasound‑assisted liposuction and laser skin tightening, allowing for precise fat removal and superior skin retraction. His breast surgery expertise spans augmentation, reduction, lift, and reconstruction, employing techniques such as dual‑plane implants, autologous tissue flaps, and oncoplastic strategies that achieve optimal aesthetic outcomes while prioritizing patient safety.

Beyond aesthetic pursuits, Dr. Lee’s reconstructive plastic surgery practice addresses complex defects resulting from trauma, oncologic resections, and congenital abnormalities. He is proficient in microsurgical free‑tissue transfer, a demanding technique that restores form and function by transplanting tissue from one part of the body to another with meticulous vascular anastomosis. His reconstructive portfolio includes the restoration of facial symmetry after tumor excision, lower extremity salvage following severe injuries, and the creation of functional breast reconstructions using the DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) flap. Dr. Lee’s dedication to innovation is evident in his adoption of regenerative medicine adjuncts, such as platelet‑rich plasma and stem cell‑enhanced grafts, which accelerate healing and improve long‑term outcomes.

Dr. Lee’s pediatric plastic surgery and craniofacial expertise represent a convergence of technical skill and compassionate care, addressing the unique needs of children whose developmental trajectories are profoundly impacted by surgical intervention. He performs intricate procedures ranging from cleft lip and palate repair to cranial vault remodeling, employing age‑appropriate anesthesia protocols and child‑focused perioperative support. In craniofacial surgery, Dr. Lee utilizes computer‑guided navigation and 3‑D printed models to achieve precise osteotomies and implant placements, ensuring that facial growth is accommodated and aesthetic harmony is preserved. His multidisciplinary collaboration with orthodontists, speech therapists, and neuropsychologists underscores a holistic approach that integrates surgical correction with functional rehabilitation, ultimately enhancing both the physical and psychosocial well‑being of his young patients.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Dr. Edward I. Lee’s unwavering dedication to patient safety is reflected in his active involvement with leading professional organizations that set the standards for ethical practice and clinical excellence. As a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), he adheres to rigorous guidelines that promote evidence‑based procedures, continuous education, and peer‑reviewed quality assurance. His board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) further validates his competence, as it requires a comprehensive evaluation of surgical skill, knowledge, and ethical conduct. Dr. Lee’s affiliation with the Texas Plastic Surgeons Association and the Houston Plastic Surgery Society positions him within a network of regional experts who collaborate on safety protocols, share best practices, and advance the collective expertise of the field.

Beyond organizational memberships, Dr. Lee’s commitment to safety is exemplified by his implementation of advanced perioperative protocols that minimize risk and enhance recovery. He employs a multi‑modal analgesia strategy that reduces reliance on opioid medications, incorporating regional nerve blocks, non‑steroidal anti‑inflammatory drugs, and adjunctive therapies such as acupuncture. His surgical suites are equipped with real‑time monitoring systems, including intra‑operative fluorescence imaging to assess tissue perfusion, thereby preventing ischemic complications. Dr. Lee also utilizes electronic health records integrated with decision‑support tools that flag potential drug interactions, allergic histories, and contraindications, ensuring a meticulous pre‑operative assessment that safeguards each patient’s unique health profile.

Recognition of Dr. Lee’s excellence in safety and patient care is reflected in prestigious accolades, including the Top Doctor Award from Houston Magazine in 2021 and the Best Cosmetic Surgeon Award from the Texas Aesthetic Society in 2022. These honors not only acknowledge his technical prowess but also celebrate his consistent delivery of compassionate, patient‑focused care. Moreover, Dr. Lee’s participation in ongoing clinical research—particularly studies evaluating postoperative infection rates, scar quality, and long‑term aesthetic satisfaction—demonstrates his commitment to continuous improvement.
