Graduating with honors, she earned admission to the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League institution where she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Biology. At Penn, Dr. Spey distinguished herself through research in cellular regeneration, publishing her findings in peer‑reviewed journals and laying a scientific foundation that would later inform her surgical precision. Her undergraduate years were marked not only by academic excellence but also by leadership roles in pre‑medical societies, where she honed communication skills essential for patient interaction and interdisciplinary teamwork.

Following her undergraduate studies, Dr. Spey matriculated at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, one of the nation’s most competitive medical schools. At Columbia, she was immersed in a curriculum that emphasized both clinical acumen and humanitarian service, completing rotations in diverse settings ranging from urban hospitals to community clinics. Her commitment to surgical excellence was evident during her surgical clerkships, where she consistently earned top evaluations for technical skill, anatomical knowledge, and compassionate patient care. Dr. Spey’s time at Columbia also included a scholarly project on wound healing mechanisms, which earned her the Dean’s Award for Research Innovation.

After receiving her MD, Dr. Spey pursued a residency in Dermatology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, a program renowned for its integration of clinical dermatology with advanced procedural training. During her residency, she mastered the intricacies of cutaneous surgery, including Mohs micrographic surgery, cryotherapy, and complex skin reconstructions. Her dedication to excellence earned her the Resident Scholar Award, recognizing her contributions to clinical research on cutaneous oncology. Recognizing the synergy between dermatologic expertise and aesthetic surgery, Dr. Spey subsequently completed a fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, where she refined her skills in facial rejuvenation, body contouring, and microsurgical techniques. This extensive educational trajectory, spanning elite institutions and demanding programs, equips Dr. Spey with a rare blend of scientific rigor, surgical dexterity, and compassionate patient advocacy.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Spey’s surgical repertoire is anchored in her dual mastery of dermatologic and plastic surgery, allowing her to address a broad spectrum of aesthetic and reconstructive challenges with unparalleled finesse. Her expertise in Mohs micrographic surgery—an exacting technique that removes skin cancers layer by layer while preserving healthy tissue—has positioned her as a leading authority in oncologic skin surgery within the New Jersey region. By integrating Mohs surgery with immediate reconstructive procedures, Dr. Spey minimizes patient downtime and maximizes cosmetic outcomes, a seamless approach that reflects her commitment to both oncologic safety and aesthetic excellence. Her proficiency in this domain is further evidenced by numerous published case studies demonstrating innovative closure methods and reduced recurrence rates.

In addition to Mohs surgery, Dr. Spey excels in cryotherapy, employing precise, controlled freezing to treat benign lesions, actinic keratoses, and early‑stage skin cancers. Her nuanced understanding of cryogenic physics enables her to tailor treatment parameters to each lesion’s depth and location, thereby optimizing therapeutic efficacy while minimizing collateral tissue damage. This meticulous approach is complemented by her skill in advanced dermatologic procedures such as laser resurfacing, dermabrasion, and filler injections, which she integrates into comprehensive aesthetic plans. Dr. Spey’s ability to synergize dermatologic interventions with plastic surgical techniques ensures that patients receive comprehensive, cohesive care that addresses both disease eradication and aesthetic refinement.

Beyond dermatologic surgery, Dr. Spey’s plastic surgery expertise encompasses a full spectrum of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. She is renowned for her refined facial rejuvenation techniques, including facelifts, brow lifts, and periorbital surgeries, which restore youthful contours while preserving natural expression. Her body contouring work—ranging from abdominoplasty to liposuction and thigh lifts—exemplifies an artistic eye for proportion and symmetry, delivering results that harmonize with each patient’s unique physique. Moreover, Dr. Spey is adept at microsurgical reconstruction, employing free‑tissue transfer and flap techniques to restore form and function after trauma or oncologic resections. Her comprehensive skill set, honed through relentless practice and continuous education, underscores a commitment to delivering outcomes that are both technically superior and aesthetically harmonious.

Pre‑operative protocols include detailed medical histories, standardized risk stratification tools, and multidisciplinary case conferences for complex reconstructions. Intra‑operatively, she employs advanced monitoring technologies, sterile technique verification checklists, and real‑time imaging to ensure precision and minimize complications. Post‑operative care is equally meticulous, featuring individualized follow‑up schedules, wound‑healing assessments, and rapid response pathways for any adverse events.
