Meet Deborah Sillins: Philosophy and Approach
Dr. Deborah Sillins approaches plastic surgery as a convergence of art, science, and compassionate patient care. From her earliest days in medical school, she recognized that the human body is a living canvas, and that each surgical intervention must honor both the anatomical foundation and the individual’s personal narrative. Her philosophy is rooted in a deep respect for the intrinsic dignity of each patient, which drives her to listen attentively, diagnose precisely, and tailor each procedure to the unique contours of a person’s physical and emotional aspirations. She believes that the ultimate goal of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery is not merely to alter appearance, but to enhance self‑confidence, improve quality of life, and empower patients to engage fully with the world around them. This patient‑centered mindset informs every step of her practice, from the initial consultation through postoperative follow‑up, ensuring that each decision is made with transparency, empathy, and a clear alignment of expectations.
Beyond the operating room, Dr. Sillins dedicates herself to continuous learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. She regularly attends international conferences, engages in peer‑reviewed research, and participates in multidisciplinary case conferences that bring together dermatologists, oncologists, and mental health professionals. This commitment to staying at the forefront of emerging techniques—such as minimally invasive facial rejuvenation, three‑dimensional imaging for surgical planning, and regenerative medicine adjuncts—allows her to integrate cutting‑edge innovations into a practice that remains grounded in evidence‑based medicine. Her approach is also shaped by a belief that aesthetic outcomes should be timeless, not fleeting trends; therefore, she emphasizes natural results that age gracefully, preserving the individuality of each patient’s facial expression and body language.
Dr. Sillins also champions a holistic view of health that extends beyond the operating theater. She encourages patients to adopt supportive lifestyle habits—nutrition, exercise, stress management—that complement surgical outcomes and promote long‑term well‑being. In her clinic, she has instituted a comprehensive pre‑operative counseling program that includes psychological screening, realistic goal setting, and detailed education on postoperative care. By fostering an environment of trust and open communication, she empowers patients to become active participants in their own transformation, thereby reducing anxiety and improving satisfaction. This integrative model reflects her conviction that true aesthetic excellence is achieved when surgical skill, scientific rigor, and compassionate stewardship intersect.

Rigorous Medical Education and Training
Dr. Sillins earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from New York Medical College in 1991, graduating with honors and a distinguished record of academic achievement. During her time at NYMC, she distinguished herself not only through a rigorous curriculum but also through extracurricular leadership in student medical societies, where she advocated for gender equity in surgical specialties and organized mentorship programs for aspiring female physicians. Her clinical rotations emphasized a balanced exposure to both general surgery and emerging subspecialties, laying a robust foundation for her subsequent specialization. The rigorous scientific training she received—encompassing anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology—instilled a disciplined approach to problem solving and a relentless pursuit of precision that would later define her operative technique.
Following medical school, Dr. Sillins pursued a highly competitive residency in plastic surgery at the University of Cincinnati, completing her training in 1995. The University of Cincinnati’s plastic surgery program, renowned for its emphasis on both reconstructive and aesthetic procedures, provided her with a diverse caseload that ranged from complex craniofacial reconstructions to innovative cosmetic enhancements. Under the mentorship of world‑class faculty, she refined her microsurgical skills, mastered the nuances of flap design, and developed a keen eye for aesthetic proportion. Her residency experience also included extensive exposure to multidisciplinary care teams, fostering collaborative relationships with orthopedic surgeons, oncologists, and rehabilitation specialists—an interdisciplinary perspective that continues to inform her comprehensive approach to patient management.
During her residency, Dr. Sillins was selected for a prestigious fellowship in aesthetic surgery, where she conducted research on the long‑term outcomes of breast augmentation using silicone versus saline implants. Her findings, published in leading surgical journals, contributed to the evolving discourse on implant safety and patient satisfaction, and underscored her commitment to evidence‑based practice. She also earned board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery shortly after completing her residency, a testament to her mastery of the field’s rigorous standards. The combination of an elite medical education, a demanding residency, and an early focus on both reconstructive and cosmetic principles positioned Dr. Sillins as a uniquely qualified surgeon capable of delivering superior results across a broad spectrum of plastic surgery interventions.
Surgical Expertise
Dr. Sillins’s surgical repertoire encompasses the full breadth of plastic, cosmetic, and aesthetic surgery, with a particular emphasis on procedures that harmonize form and function. In the realm of breast augmentation, she employs state‑of‑the‑art techniques that prioritize implant positioning, pocket selection, and meticulous tissue handling to achieve natural‑looking results while minimizing postoperative complications. She is adept at both primary augmentations and complex revision cases, including capsulectomies and implant exchanges, and utilizes three‑dimensional imaging to help patients visualize outcomes before entering the operating room. Her expertise extends to breast reconstruction following mastectomy, where she integrates autologous tissue flaps and implant‑based methods to restore both symmetry and psychological well‑being for oncology patients.
Facial rejuvenation represents another cornerstone of Dr. Sillins’s practice. She masterfully performs a range of procedures—from minimally invasive injectables to full facelift surgeries—that address age‑related changes while preserving the patient’s unique facial identity. Her approach to facelifts incorporates a deep plane technique that repositions muscular layers for lasting lift, combined with strategic fat grafting to restore volume loss in the midface and temples. In addition, she offers advanced eyelid (blepharoplasty) and brow lift procedures that correct ptosis, excess skin, and fat prolapse, delivering refreshed yet natural results. Her dedication to preserving functional integrity ensures that patients experience not only aesthetic improvement but also enhanced visual fields and reduced ocular irritation.
Body contouring procedures, including abdominoplasty, liposuction, and thigh lifts, are performed with an emphasis on achieving harmonious proportions and durable outcomes. Dr. Sillins utilizes progressive tension sutures, meticulous hemostasis, and careful scar placement to reduce postoperative tension and improve scar quality. She also incorporates emerging technologies such as radiofrequency‑assisted lipolysis and laser‑enhanced skin tightening to maximize tissue contraction and minimize downtime. For patients seeking comprehensive transformation, she offers combined procedures—such as a “mommy makeover” that integrates breast, abdominal, and thigh surgeries—coordinated through a personalized peri‑operative plan that optimizes safety and recovery. Across all her surgical endeavors, Dr. Sillins maintains an unwavering focus on precision, patient comfort, and long‑term aesthetic harmony.
Commitment to Patient Safety
Patient safety is the cornerstone of Dr. Sillins’s practice, reinforced by her active participation in leading professional organizations. As a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), she adheres to the society’s rigorous standards for ethical practice, continuous education, and peer review. Her certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) further validates her competence and commitment to maintaining the highest levels of surgical proficiency. In addition, Dr. Sillins holds membership in the American College of Surgeons (ACS), an organization that emphasizes patient safety through evidence‑based guidelines, surgical safety checklists, and ongoing quality improvement initiatives.

Her surgical suite is equipped with advanced monitoring systems, sterile processing technologies, and real‑time imaging capabilities that enhance intra‑operative decision making. She conducts pre‑operative multidisciplinary reviews for high‑risk patients, incorporating anesthesiology, nursing, and rehabilitation specialists to develop individualized care pathways. Postoperatively, she employs evidence‑based pain management regimens and closely monitors for early signs of infection or thrombosis, ensuring rapid intervention if complications arise.
