Dr. Brian Hwang - Plastic Surgeon in West Hills, CA

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Brian Hwang earned his medical degree from the prestigious University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine, where he distinguished himself not only through academic excellence but also through a deep curiosity for the intricate interplay between anatomy and aesthetics. At UCLA, he completed a rigorous curriculum that emphasized both foundational sciences and clinical rotations, laying the groundwork for a sophisticated understanding of patient care. His elective rotations in dermatology and maxillofacial surgery sparked an early fascination with the transformative power of surgical intervention, prompting him to pursue a specialized pathway in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Following his graduation, Dr. Hwang secured a coveted residency in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Duke University, an institution renowned for its demanding training environment and cutting‑edge research opportunities. Over the course of his six‑year residency, he mastered the full spectrum of reconstructive techniques—from complex microsurgical free‑flap transfers to intricate craniofacial reconstructions—while simultaneously honing his aesthetic sensibilities. His time at Duke was marked by a series of scholarly contributions, including peer‑reviewed publications on novel flap designs and presentations at national conferences, reflecting a commitment to both clinical excellence and academic advancement.

To further refine his expertise in aesthetic surgery, Dr. Hwang pursued an Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship at the University of Southern California (USC), where he trained under some of the nation’s most respected aesthetic surgeons. This fellowship provided intensive, hands‑on experience in facial rejuvenation, body contouring, and breast aesthetics, as well as exposure to emerging technologies such as laser resurfacing, radiofrequency skin tightening, and three‑dimensional imaging. The combination of rigorous academic training, high‑volume surgical experience, and a focus on aesthetic innovation equipped Dr. Hwang with the comprehensive skill set that now defines his practice in West Hills, California.

Surgical Expertise

Dr. Brian Hwang’s surgical repertoire is distinguished by a breadth and depth that few surgeons can match, encompassing both highly sought‑after aesthetic procedures and complex reconstructive interventions. In the realm of body contouring, his expertise in liposuction extends beyond simple fat removal; he employs advanced power‑assisted and ultrasound‑assisted techniques to achieve precise sculpting while preserving the integrity of surrounding tissues. This meticulous approach minimizes postoperative bruising and swelling, allowing patients to experience a smoother recovery and more predictable results. His mastery of liposuction is complemented by a sophisticated understanding of fat grafting, enabling him to harvest, purify, and re‑inject adipose tissue with optimal viability for a range of augmentative procedures.

The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) has emerged as one of Dr. Hwang’s signature procedures, a testament to his commitment to safety and artistic excellence. Recognizing the heightened scrutiny surrounding BBLs, he adheres to the most stringent safety protocols, including submuscular fat placement, limited injection volumes per session, and the use of real‑time ultrasound guidance to avoid vascular compromise. His technique emphasizes balanced projection, natural silhouette, and harmonious proportion, resulting in outcomes that are both aesthetically pleasing and functionally stable. Patients who choose Dr. Hwang for BBLs benefit from his nuanced understanding of body dynamics, as he tailors each procedure to the individual’s unique anatomy, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals.

In addition to body contouring, Dr. Hwang is a recognized authority in abdominal and breast aesthetics. His approach to abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) integrates meticulous fascial plication, strategic liposuction, and, when appropriate, umbilical repositioning to achieve a flat, toned abdomen with minimal scarring. He routinely incorporates adjunctive technologies such as progressive tension sutures and tissue‑preserving techniques to reduce postoperative complications and expedite recovery. For breast augmentation, Dr. Hwang offers a comprehensive suite of options, ranging from silicone and saline implants to autologous fat grafting, each selected after an exhaustive consultation process that evaluates breast dimensions, skin quality, and patient expectations. His aesthetic philosophy prioritizes symmetry, natural feel, and long‑term durability, ensuring that each patient’s journey toward enhanced confidence is grounded in safety and artistic integrity.
