His time at Vanderbilt was marked by active involvement in research projects that explored novel biomaterials for wound closure, resulting in multiple presentations at national conferences and publications in high‑impact journals.

Following medical school, Dr. Collins pursued a comprehensive residency in plastic surgery at the world‑renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital. The residency program at Johns Hopkins is distinguished by its demanding operative schedule, high case volume, and a culture that encourages innovative problem‑solving. During his six‑year training, Collins mastered a breadth of procedures ranging from microvascular free‑flap reconstruction to aesthetic facial surgery, gaining exposure to both complex oncologic reconstructions and elective cosmetic enhancements. He was selected for the prestigious Hopkins Plastic Surgery Fellows Program, where he contributed to pioneering research on flap perfusion monitoring using indocyanine green angiography, a technique that has since become a standard of care in many institutions. His clinical acumen was further honed by mentorship from iconic leaders in the field, allowing him to internalize a philosophy that blends technical precision with compassionate patient care.

Beyond his formal training, Dr. Collins has engaged in continuous professional development through fellowships, workshops, and international observerships. He completed a one‑year fellowship in microsurgical reconstruction at the University of Toronto, where he refined his skill in supermicrosurgery, enabling him to perform delicate lymphaticovenular anastomoses for lymphedema management. Additionally, he attended intensive aesthetic surgery courses in Paris and Seoul, absorbing global perspectives on emerging trends in facial rejuvenation and body contouring. These experiences have not only expanded his technical repertoire but also cultivated a cultural sensitivity that informs his practice in a diverse metropolitan area like Baltimore. Surgical Expertise

In the realm of breast reconstruction, Dr. Brendan J. Collins has established himself as a leader in both oncologic and aesthetic restoration. His expertise encompasses immediate and delayed reconstruction following mastectomy, employing a spectrum of techniques that include tissue‑expanded implants, autologous abdominal flaps (TRAM, DIEP, and SIEA), and hybrid approaches that combine implant and flap methods for optimal contour and volume. Dr. Collins’s meticulous pre‑operative planning incorporates three‑dimensional imaging and patient‑specific anatomical modeling, allowing him to tailor flap design to each individual’s unique vascular anatomy and aesthetic goals. He is also at the forefront of incorporating enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols, which have dramatically reduced postoperative pain, shortened hospital stays, and accelerated return to daily activities for his patients. His contributions to the field have been recognized through invitations to present at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) annual meetings, where he has shared outcomes data demonstrating superior long‑term symmetry and patient satisfaction rates compared with national benchmarks.

Dr. Collins’s cosmetic medicine portfolio reflects a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach that blends surgical artistry with non‑invasive technologies. He offers a full suite of facial rejuvenation procedures, including facelifts, brow lifts, rhinoplasty, and eyelid surgery, each executed with a focus on preserving natural facial dynamics and avoiding the “over‑done” appearance that can compromise patient confidence. In addition to surgical options, he integrates advanced injectables—such as hyaluronic acid fillers and neuromodulators—into a cohesive aesthetic plan, employing precise volumetric analysis to achieve harmonious balance across facial regions. Dr. Collins is also proficient in body contouring procedures, ranging from abdominoplasty to thigh and arm lifts, where his attention to scar placement and tension‑free closure techniques yields results that are both aesthetically pleasing and durable. His commitment to safety and efficacy is underscored by his participation in multicenter trials evaluating the long‑term outcomes of emerging technologies like radiofrequency skin tightening and laser resurfacing, ensuring that his practice remains at the cutting edge of aesthetic innovation.

Beyond individual procedures, Dr. Collins has cultivated a reputation for complex reconstructive surgery that addresses the unique challenges of trauma, congenital anomalies, and chronic wound management. His experience includes intricate craniofacial reconstructions for patients with cleft palate and syndromic deformities, where he collaborates closely with orthodontists, speech therapists, and pediatric specialists to orchestrate staged interventions that support functional development and psychosocial well‑being. In the realm of hand surgery, he has performed delicate tendon transfers and nerve repairs that restore fine motor function for patients afflicted by peripheral nerve injuries. Moreover, Dr. Collins has pioneered the use of regenerative medicine adjuncts, such as platelet‑rich plasma (PRP) and stem‑cell‑enriched fat grafting, to enhance tissue healing and improve scar quality in both reconstructive and aesthetic contexts. His comprehensive expertise, reinforced by a robust research portfolio and a patient‑centered ethos, positions him as a versatile surgeon capable of addressing the full spectrum of plastic surgery needs.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Dr. Brendan J. Collins’s unwavering dedication to patient safety is reflected in his active involvement with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), where he serves on the Patient Safety Committee and contributes to the development of national guidelines that standardize peri‑operative protocols across the specialty. His leadership in this arena includes authoring consensus statements on the prevention of surgical site infections and the implementation of evidence‑based checklists that have demonstrably reduced complication rates in participating institutions. Dr. Collins also maintains board certification through the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), a credential that requires rigorous periodic assessment of both clinical competence and ethical practice. This certification process ensures that he remains current with evolving standards of care, including the latest advancements in anesthesia safety, intra‑operative monitoring, and postoperative pain management.

At the state level, Dr. Collins is an active member of the Maryland Society of Plastic Surgeons, where he collaborates with fellow surgeons to promote regional initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes. He spearheaded a statewide audit program that tracks key performance indicators such as readmission rates, wound infection incidence, and patient‑reported satisfaction scores, providing transparent data that informs continuous quality improvement. In recognition of his exemplary safety record and commitment to excellence, Dr. Collins was honored as the Best Plastic Surgeon by Baltimore Magazine in 2022, an accolade that reflects both his clinical expertise and his reputation for meticulous, patient‑focused care. This award is a testament to his consistent delivery of high‑quality surgical outcomes, his compassionate bedside manner, and his ability to navigate complex cases with a steadfast focus on minimizing risk.

Dr. Collins’s approach to safety extends beyond institutional affiliations to incorporate cutting‑edge technologies that enhance intra‑operative precision and post‑operative monitoring. He utilizes intra‑operative fluorescence imaging to assess tissue perfusion in real time, thereby reducing the incidence of flap necrosis and ensuring optimal wound healing. Postoperatively, he employs remote patient monitoring platforms that allow for early detection of complications such as seroma formation or infection, enabling timely interventions that prevent escalation. Additionally, Dr. Collins adheres to a comprehensive informed consent process that not only outlines potential risks but also educates patients on pre‑operative optimization strategies, including smoking cessation, glycemic control, and nutritional support. This holistic approach to safety underscores his belief that the best outcomes arise from a partnership between surgeon, patient, and the broader healthcare team, all working in concert to uphold the highest standards of care.
