Read about this doctor's medical background and experience.
Archibald S. Miller, MD, is guided by a philosophy that places the patient’s intrinsic identity at the core of every surgical decision. From his earliest days in medical school, Dr. Miller recognized that the art of plastic surgery transcends the mere manipulation of tissue; it is an intimate collaboration that respects the nuanced interplay between anatomy, psychology, and personal aspiration. He routinely emphasizes that a successful outcome is not measured solely by the technical precision of a procedure but by the patient’s renewed confidence, functional improvement, and long‑term satisfaction. This patient‑centered ethos informs every consultation, where he invests significant time in listening, asking probing questions, and establishing realistic expectations that align with each individual’s unique aesthetic goals and lifestyle demands.
Beyond the clinical setting, Dr. Miller’s approach is deeply rooted in a commitment to lifelong learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. He maintains active memberships in several surgical societies, participates in peer‑reviewed research, and regularly attends international conferences to stay abreast of emerging techniques, biomaterials, and safety protocols. By integrating insights from reconstructive oncology, craniofacial genetics, and regenerative medicine, he has cultivated a practice that seamlessly blends cutting‑edge science with timeless surgical craftsmanship. This synthesis enables him to offer innovative solutions—such as fat grafting combined with stem‑cell enrichment for facial rejuvenation—that deliver natural, durable results while minimizing invasiveness.
In the operating theater, Dr. Miller’s philosophy translates into a meticulous, step‑by‑step methodology that prioritizes precision, tissue preservation, and ergonomic efficiency. He employs a “four‑pillar” framework—assessment, planning, execution, and aftercare—to ensure each procedure is tailored to the patient’s anatomy and personal narrative. His dedication to transparent communication extends into postoperative care, where he provides comprehensive education on wound management, activity modification, and scar optimization. By fostering an environment of trust and empowerment, Dr. Miller not only achieves aesthetic excellence but also cultivates enduring patient relationships that often span decades.
Recognized medical specialties.
Dr. Miller’s academic journey began at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree with honors. During his medical school tenure, he distinguished himself through rigorous coursework, a strong performance on the United States Medical Licensing Examination, and a series of research projects that explored the biomechanics of skin elasticity and the molecular pathways of wound healing. His senior thesis, which examined the role of extracellular matrix remodeling in post‑traumatic scar formation, earned the Dean’s Award for Research Excellence and laid a scientific foundation that would later inform his reconstructive practice.
Following medical school, Dr. Miller pursued a highly competitive residency in plastic surgery, completing his training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center—an institution renowned for its integrated approach to complex reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Over the course of his six‑year residency, he rotated through a breadth of subspecialties, including microsurgical free‑flap reconstruction, craniofacial deformity correction, hand surgery, and aesthetic facial procedures. He was selected for the prestigious “Chief Resident” position in his final year, a role that required him to lead a multidisciplinary team, coordinate high‑risk oncologic reconstructions, and mentor junior residents in both operative technique and ethical patient care.
Dr. Miller’s fellowship experience further refined his expertise in advanced aesthetic and reconstructive techniques. He spent a year as a senior fellow at the Texas Southwestern Center for Aesthetic Innovation, where he mastered three‑dimensional imaging, computer‑assisted surgical planning, and the latest injectable technologies. This fellowship also afforded him the opportunity to collaborate with leading researchers on clinical trials evaluating the safety and efficacy of novel hyaluronic acid formulations and bio‑resorbable implantable scaffolds. The depth and breadth of his training, combined with a relentless pursuit of surgical perfection, have positioned Dr. Miller as a thought leader in both academic and private practice settings.
Dr. Miller’s surgical repertoire encompasses the full spectrum of plastic surgery, ranging from delicate microsurgical reconstructions to high‑volume aesthetic procedures. In the realm of reconstructive surgery, he has become a trusted surgeon for complex wound management, including the repair of traumatic injuries, pressure ulcer coverage, and post‑mastectomy breast reconstruction. His expertise in flap selection—whether pedicled latissimus dorsi, deep inferior epigastric artery (DIEP) free flaps, or perforator-based propeller flaps—allows him to tailor the optimal tissue transfer based on defect size, vascular anatomy, and patient comorbidities. Each reconstruction is approached with an emphasis on preserving donor‑site function, minimizing operative time, and achieving aesthetically harmonious outcomes.
On the aesthetic front, Dr. Miller is renowned for his natural‑looking breast augmentation techniques, which integrate a nuanced understanding of implant selection, placement plane, and soft‑tissue dynamics. He collaborates closely with patients to determine the most appropriate implant size, shape, and surface texture, and he employs a dual‑plane or submuscular approach when indicated to reduce the risk of capsular contracture and improve long‑term contour stability. His commitment to safety is evident in his meticulous pre‑operative imaging, intra‑operative antibiotic protocols, and postoperative monitoring, resulting in a complication rate that consistently ranks among the lowest in national registries.
In addition to surgical interventions, Dr. Miller has cultivated a comprehensive injectable practice that includes neuromodulators, dermal fillers, and emerging regenerative therapies. He utilizes a patient‑specific algorithm that assesses facial anatomy, volume loss, and dynamic muscle activity to construct a personalized treatment plan. By employing advanced techniques such as micro‑cannula placement, layer‑specific filler deposition, and hybrid volumizing protocols, he achieves subtle yet transformative rejuvenation that respects each patient’s unique facial architecture. His mastery of these non‑surgical modalities not only expands his therapeutic arsenal but also offers patients an array of options that can be combined with or stand alone from operative procedures.
Safety is the cornerstone of Dr. Miller’s practice, a principle reinforced by his active involvement with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). As a board‑certified plastic surgeon, he adheres to the rigorous standards set forth by these governing bodies, participating in continuous quality improvement initiatives, peer‑reviewed audits, and mandatory continuing medical education (CME) courses. His clinic maintains an accredited surgical suite that complies with Joint Commission standards, ensuring that every aspect of patient care—from pre‑operative assessment to post‑operative follow‑up—is conducted within a controlled, evidence‑based environment.
Dr. Miller’s dedication to safety extends beyond regulatory compliance; he is a founding member of the Tulsa Plastic Surgery Society, an organization that fosters collaboration among local surgeons to share best practices, develop community outreach programs, and establish unified protocols for emergency response and infection control. In recognition of his exemplary leadership and clinical outcomes, Dr. Miller was honored as “Best Plastic Surgeon” by Tulsa Magazine in 2022, an accolade that reflects both his technical excellence and his unwavering commitment to patient welfare. The following year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons awarded him the prestigious Award for Excellence, acknowledging his contributions to safety research, mentorship, and the advancement of minimally invasive techniques.
Beyond accolades, Dr. Miller has instituted a suite of patient‑centric safety measures that have become a model for practices nationwide. These include a comprehensive pre‑operative screening questionnaire that evaluates cardiovascular risk, metabolic health, and psychosocial readiness; a standardized intra‑operative checklist that incorporates time‑out verification of patient identity, procedure, and implant specifications; and a robust post‑operative monitoring protocol that utilizes digital wound assessment tools, telemedicine follow‑ups, and a 24‑hour hotline staffed by registered nurses. By integrating these layered safeguards, Dr. Miller ensures that every patient’s journey is marked by transparency, prompt complication detection, and swift, evidence‑based intervention when needed.
